This is fixed to leg piece by two 1-inch mortise and tenon joints. It is also nailed to the extension piece. 6. Extension piece?18 ins. by 6 ins. sloping to 5 ins at the top. A pulley (an empty thread reel on a stout nail will do) is inserted in a hole 2 ins. square, so that its centre is 15 ins. from the upper surface of the base piece. This is the correct height to bring the extension into line with the thigh. On the reverse side of this piece 6 or 7 small nails or screw hooks are driven in obliquely at one inch intervals in the middle line. This piece is fixed to the base piece by means of two H in. mortise and tenon joints, and two oblique supports as shown in sketch.
