Evaluating Devices and Navigation Tools in 3D Environments

چکیده
3D environments have been used in many applications. Besides the use of keyboard and mouse, best suited for desktop environments, other devices emerged for specific use in immersive environments. The lack of standardization in the use and in the control mapping of these devices makes the design task more challenging. We performed an exploratory study involving beginners and advanced users in the use of three devices in 3D environments: KeyboardMouse, Wiimote and Flystick. The navigation in this kind of environment is done through three tools: Fly, Examine and Walk. The study results showed how the interaction in virtual reality environments is affected by the navigation mechanism, the device, and the user’s previous experience. The results may be used to inform the future design of virtual reality environments.

متن کاملAn Analysis of Temperature Changes of Devices Produced using 3D Printers with the Help of Abacus Software
3D printers are tools utilized to create real 3D samples using the 3D files within your computer. The first feasibility and idea of such tools dates back to 1950. The very first sketch of 3D printers was presented in 1980s called "Rapid Prototyping" and the first sample was developed by Charles Hall and it was recorded with the name of the same scientist. But the current 3D printers were fi...

3D virtual environments are increasingly used as generalpurpose medium for communicating spatial information. In particular, virtual 3D city models have numerous applications such as car navigation, city marketing, tourism, and gaming. In these applications, pointsof-interest (POI) play a major role since they typically represent features relevant for specific user tasks and facilitate effectiv...
متن کاملHuman Computer Interaction Using Vision-Based Hand Gesture Recognition
With the rapid emergence of 3D applications and virtual environments in computer systems; the need for a new type of interaction device arises. This is because the traditional devices such as mouse, keyboard, and joystick become inefficient and cumbersome within these virtual environments. In other words, evolution of user interfaces shapes the change in the Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). In...
متن کاملA Hierarchical SLAM/GPS/INS Sensor Fusion with WLFP for Flying Robo-SAR's Navigation
In this paper, we present the results of a hierarchical SLAM/GPS/INS/WLFP sensor fusion to be used in navigation system devices. Due to low quality of the inertial sensors, even a short-term GPS failure can lower the integrated navigation performance significantly. In addition, in GPS denied environments, most navigation systems need a separate assisting resource, in order to increase the avail...
