چکیده

We demonstrate in an experiment an optical packet switching (OPS) using recursive parametric wavelength converters (PWCs) which uses the combination of two or more PWCs for wavelength conversions. The PWCs, which are based on four-wave mixing in highly nonlinear fibers, are possible for multiple wavelength conversion, allowing a shareper-node switching scheme, and thus significantly reducing the number of wavelength converters. Detailed demonstration of a developed OPS prototype using the joint of two PWCs indicates the generation of various wavelength conversion patterns which play an important role for OPS performance. The converted signals after two stages of PWC are obtainedwith error-free operations and lowpower penalties (BER = 10−9) of about 2.0 dB. Numerical results also show significant improvement in packet blocking probability by the proposed recursive PWC-based OPS in comparison with the previous non-recursive

WDM Optical Packet Switches with Bufferless and Partially Shared Buffering Wavelength Converters

Abstract-In this paper we introduce two architectures for optical packet switches. One is a bufferless switch employing shared Tunable Wavelength Converters (TWCs), and the other is a packet switch with Partially Shared Buffering (PSB). They were proposed for solving problems of contention resolution. The bufferless optical packet switch employing shared TWCs allows a saving in terms of employe...

An Optical Packet Switch based on Parametric Wavelength Converters

In an OPS, an optical fiber carries several wavelengths to transmit packets. An input fiber may carry as many packets as wavelengths that could be destined to one or several output fibers. The output contention occurs when multiple packets from different input fibers are destined to a single output fiber using the same wavelength at the same time. Only one packet is forwarded to the output fibe...

An Architecture for a Wavelength-Interchanging Cross-Connect Utilizing Parametric Wavelength Converters

This paper proposes an architecture for a wavelength-interchanging cross-connect (WIXC) that can be used as a switching node of strictly transparent and scalable networks with all-optical routing and all-optical wavelength conversion capabilities. This architecture utilizes all-optical parametric wavelength converters based on difference-frequencygeneration (DFG) or four-wave mixing (FWM), alth...

Nonblocking All-Optical Cross Connect Based on Regenerative All-Optical Wavelength Converter in a Transparent Demonstration Over 42 Nodes and 16800 km

A red-shift optical filter all-optical wavelength converter compatible to all-optical WDM networks is introduced and demonstrated at 40 and 10 Gb/s. The wavelength converter provides reshaping and can act as a power equalizer. We use the device to overcome wavelength blocking in a looped-fiber network demonstration equivalent to 42 cross-connect switches and a 16800 km transmission distance.

Modeling and Analysis of WDM OPS Employing Tunable Converter Sharing under Self-Similar Variable Length Packet Traffic

Wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) switching has been emerging as the dominant technology in optical networks. In this paper, we study the switching performance of WDM optical packet switch (OPS) equipped with tunable wavelength converter sharing dedicated to each output fiber line under self-similar variable packet length traffic. In this study, we model WDM OPS employing tunable wavelengt...
