Emergent Characteristics of Complex Learning Communities

چکیده
Two significant types of Learning Community (LC) which have evolved to facilitate timely knowledge generation are corporate Communities of Practice (CoPs) (Wenger et al 2002) and Virtual Learning Communities (VLCs) (Rheingold 1993). These LCs have proven notoriously difficult to create and maintain due to their intrinsic complex nature; the multiple interactions of people, motivational drivers, technology and environment(s) lead to ‘organic’ development and ‘emergence’ of new properties, which are not possessed by constituent individuals in isolation. Success appears best achieved when CoPs are coordinated and narrowly focussed on a particular problem domain or VLCs have sharply focussed interest domains (Brown & Salafsky 2004).

A Multiagent Reinforcement Learning algorithm to solve the Community Detection Problem
Community detection is a challenging optimization problem that consists of searching for communities that belong to a network under the assumption that the nodes of the same community share properties that enable the detection of new characteristics or functional relationships in the network. Although there are many algorithms developed for community detection, most of them are unsuitable when ...
متن کاملAll Health Partnerships, Great and Small: Comparing Mandated With Emergent Health Partnerships; Comment on “Evaluating Global Health Partnerships: A Case Study of a Gavi HPV Vaccine Application Process in Uganda”
The plurality of healthcare providers and funders in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) has given rise to an era in which health partnerships are becoming the norm in international development. Whether mandated or emergent, three common drivers are essential for ensuring successful health partnerships: trust; a diverse and inclusive network; and a clear governance structure. Mandated and ...
متن کاملA Dynamical Systems Model for Language Change
This paper formalizes linguists’ intuitions about language change, proposing a dynamical systems model for language change derived from a model for language acquisition. Linguists must explain not only how languages are learned but also how and why they have evolved along certain trajectories and not others. While the language learning problem has focused on the behavior of individuals and how ...
متن کاملA Dynamical System Approach to Research in Second Language Acquisition
Epistemologically speaking, second language acquisition research (SLAR) might be reconsidered from a complex dynamical system view with interconnected aspects in the ecosystem of language acquisition. The present paper attempts to introduce the tenets of complex system theory and its application in SLAR. It has been suggested that the present dominant traditions in language acquisition research...
متن کامل“Professional Learning Communities (PLC): An Effective Strategy to Improve Teachers’ Self-Efficacy”
Nowadays almost all schools fail to develop a process in line with supporting the professional development of teachers. Professional learning communities intend to formulate a framework and process for teachers’ continuous learning and professional development. The present research aims to investigate the impact of Professional Learning Communities (PLC) on the teachers’ self-efficacy. This res...
