چکیده

We have performed a comparison of magnetoresistance and structure of epitaxial and textured Fe/Cr superlattices grown by molecular-beam epitaxy ~MBE! and magnetron sputtering with either ~110! and ~100! orientations on a variety of substrates. MBE samples grown along the ~100! orientation, exhibit narrower rocking curves ~mosaic spread! and lower saturation resistivities than sputtered samples. On the other hand, ~110! MBE and sputtered samples have comparable saturation resistivities. The magnetoresistance ~Dr! of MBE and sputtered samples are comparable. Epitaxial MBE samples, with small rocking curves, show a clear correlation between the magnetoresistance and rocking curve width. In sputtered samples, roughness, controlled by the deposition pressure, plays an important role although the general trends depend on orientation and mosaic spread of the samples.

Giant magnetoresistance of (001)Fe/(001)Cr magnetic superlattices.

We have studied the magnetoresistance of (001)Fe/(001)Cr superlattices prepared by molecularbeam epitaxy. A huge magnetoresistance is found in superlattices with thin Cr layers: For example, with rc, =9 A, at T =4.2 K, the resistivity is lowered by almost a factor of 2 in a magnetic field of 2 T. We ascribe this giant magnetoresistance to spin-dependent transmission of the conduction electrons ...

Effects of annealing on the magnetoresistance and structure of Fe/Cr(110) superlattices.

We have performed magnetotransport, magnetization, and structural experiments on sputtered Fe~30 Å!/Cr~12 Å! ~110! superlattices that were annealed at temperatures up to 400 °C. Interestingly, their giant magnetoresistance (Dr) is enhanced at intermediate temperatures, and strongly decreased at higher temperatures. If normalized to the antiferromagnetic coupling fraction of sample, the magnetor...

Effect of sputtering pressure-induced roughness on the microstructure and the perpendicular giant magnetoresistance of FeÕCr superlattices

We have studied the connection between structure and magnetism of Fe/Cr superlattices as a function of sputtering pressure. To measure the perpendicular giant magnetoresistance, we have fabricated microstructured Fe/Cr pillars embedded in SiO2 and interconnected with Nb electrodes. Because of the uniform current distribution in the Nb electrodes and the minimization of the superlattice-electrod...

Oscillations of the transport properties in Ni /Co superlattices

Although metallic multilayers have recently attracted much attention, especially since the discovery of giant magnetoresistance in Fe /Cr multilayers [1], only a small number of true superlattice effects have been experimentally observed. These are the appearance of superlattice Bragg peaks in X-ray diffraction [2], the collective behavior of magnons in magnetic/non-magnetic superlattices [3], ...

Enhancement of perpendicular and parallel giant magnetoresistance with the number of bilayers in FeÕCr superlattices

We have correlated a detailed quantitative structural analysis by x-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, and high spatial resolution electron energy-loss spectroscopy imaging, with the magnetization and anisotropic magnetotransport properties in sputtered Fe/Cr superlattices. To accomplish this, we developed a technique for magnetotransport measurements in metallic superlattices w...
