چکیده

The mechanism of the increased stiffness of peripheral vessels in patients with congestive heart failure (CHF) is unknown. It was considered that an increased sodium (Na+) content of peripheral vessels, shown in experimental CHF, might lead to diminished arteriolar dilator capacity. Thus, Na+ retention was induced in six normal volunteers by the daily oral administration of 0.2 mg of fludrocortisone acetate (F) and 10 g NaCl for 1 week. This induced a weight increase of 3.1 lb and increased

A comparison of regional blood flow and oxygen utilization during dynamic forearm exercise in normal subjects and patients with congestive heart failure.

Patients with severe congestive heart failure (CHF) have been found to have a diminished response to the metabolic arteriolar dilator stimulus of ischemia. In order to evaluate a more physiologic stimulus and the possible metabolic consequences of this vascular abnormality, 22 normal subjects (N) and seven patients with severe CHF performed rhythmic forearm exercise by squeezing a rubber bulb t...

Short-term angiotensin converting enzyme inhibition reduces basal tone and dilator reactivity in skeletal muscle arterioles.

Alterations in resting tone, maximum diameter, and dilator reactivity to acetylcholine (ACH) and sodium nitroprusside (SNP) were assessed in cremaster muscle microvessels of Sprague-Dawley rats receiving angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibition with captopril for 4 days and in untreated time-control rats. The transilluminated in situ cremaster muscle was superfused with physiologic salt s...

Effects of hypertension and aging on coronary arteriolar density.

Coronary reserve has been shown repeatedly to be depressed in hypertension and aging. The underlying mechanisms remain elusive, but structural alterations of the coronary vasculature have been implicated. In this study, we measured maximal coronary dilator capacity and structural characteristics relevant to coronary resistance in aging normotensive (Wistar-Kyoto, n = 22) and spontaneously hyper...

The cardiovascular effects of morphine. The peripheral capacitance and resistance vessels in human subjects.

To evaluate the effects of morphine on the peripheral venous and arterial beds, 69 normal subjects were evaluated before and after the intravenous administration of 15 mg morphine. Venous tone was determined by three independent techniques in 22 subjects. The venous pressure measured in a hand vein during temporary circulatory arrest (isolated hand vein technique) fell from 20.2+/-1.4 to 13.4+/...

The Peripheral Capacitance and Resistance Vessels in Human Subjects

ing temporary circulatory arrest (isolated hand vein technique) fell from 20.2±1.4 to 13.4±0.9 mm Hg (P < 0.01) 10 min after morphine, indicating that a significant venodilation had occurred. With the acute occlusion technique, morphine induced a reduction in forearm venous tone from 12.8±1.1 to 7.9±2.3 mm Hg/ml/100 ml (P < 0.01). Although forearm venous volume at a pressure of 30 mm Hg (VV[30]...
