Water-rock interaction and life
نویسنده
چکیده
Water-rock interactions play a critical role in the origin, existence, and prospects of life. Minerals are sources of energy and nutrients. Life uses aqueous chemical gradients to access and use minerals. Chemical disequilibrium, therefore, represents one type of biotic signature. Life also controls other types of disequilibrium, including isotopic disequilibrium and morphology. Water is a fundamental contributor to all of these biosignatures, acting as a medium for mass transfer and a reservoir for components. Distinguishing biosignatures from abiotic signatures challenges instrumental capabilities. Finally, the ubiquity and heterogenous distribution of life on Earth challenges the ability to interpret different types of disequilibria as evidence for life, or absence thereof. © 2012 The Authors. Lake Hydro Geochemistry: An Implication to Chemical Weathering, Ion-exchange Phenomena and Metal Interaction
Present study aims to unravel the hydro geochemical interaction of sediment and water of Saheb bandh lake, West Bengal, India with an emphasis on heavy metal assessment. Lake water belongs to Ca2+–HCO3− type hydro geochemical faces and water-rock interaction primarily controls the lake water chemistry. Based on different Hydro chemical characteristics it is suggested that silicate weathering is...
متن کاملRock/water interaction in dielectric properties: Experiments with hydrophobic sandstones
The dielectric constant of a partially saturated sandstone varies as a function of the level of water saturation. Experimental data indicate that rock/water interaction, at low saturations, has a large effect on the measured dielectric response. To theoretically predict the dielectric constant of the rock/water/air system, this rock/water interaction must be accounted for by including the effec...
متن کاملMineralogical and Morphological Features of Fractured Granitic Rock Tested under Water-rock Interaction
Chemical analysis of the Water-rock interaction showed that hydrothermal altered rock contains large amount of fluoride. Considering that alteration has mainly occurred at the fractures’ cleavages, the aim of this paper is to investigate the change of the mineral composition between the cleavages and other parts of the granite surfaces. Scanning electron microscope with energy-dispersive spectr...
متن کاملUTILIZING CONCEPTUAL MODELING IN THE STUDY OF ONE OF THE IRANIAN FRACTURED CARBONATE RESERVOIRS
A typical Iranian carbonate matrix block surrounded by an open fracture was modeled in order to understand the fracture-matrix interaction and realize how to model the interaction best. The modeling was carried out by using a fine-scaled Eclipse model in the single porosity mode (the fractures were explicitly modeled). The model was extended to a stack of 6 matrix blocks to understand block-to-...
