چکیده

The most intense monitoring observations yet made were carried out on the Seyfert 1 galaxy NGC 4151 in the optical and near-infrared wave-bands. A lag from the optical light curve to the near-infrared light curve was measured. The lag-time between the V and K light curves at the flux minimum in 2001 was precisely 48 −3 days, as determined by a cross-correlation analysis. The correlation between the optical luminosity of an active galactic nucleus (AGN) and the lagtime between the UV/optical and the near-infrared light curves is presented for NGC 4151 in combination with previous lag-time measurements of NGC 4151 and other AGNs in the literature. This correlation is interpreted as thermal dust reverberation in an AGN, where the near-infrared emission from an AGN is expected to be the thermal re-radiation from hot dust surrounding the central Institute of Astronomy, School of Science, University of Tokyo, 2-21-1 Osawa, Mitaka, Tokyo 181-0015, Japan e-mail: [email protected] Research Center for the Early Universe, School of Science, University of Tokyo, 7-3-1 Hongo, Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo 113-0033, Japan National Astronomical Observatory, 2-21-1 Osawa, Mitaka, Tokyo 181-8588, Japan Institute of Space and Astronautical Science, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, 3-1-1, Yoshinodai, Sagamihara, Kanagawa, 229-8510, Japan Department of Astronomy, School of Science, University of Tokyo, 7-3-1 Hongo, Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo 113-0013, Japan Kiso Observatory, Institute of Astronomy, School of Science, University of Tokyo, 10762-30 Mitake, Kiso, Nagano 397-0101, Japan Mount Stromlo Observatory, Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics, The Australian National University, Weston Creek P. High Spatial Resolution Mid-infrared Observations of Three Seyfert Galaxies

Images at 12.5 lm of nuclei of three nearby Seyfert galaxies—NGC 1275, NGC 4151, and NGC 7469— have been obtained with the 10 m Keck Telescope. NGC 7469 is resolved and deconvolution delineates a structure (<0>04) 0>08, or less than 13 26 pc at a position angle of 135 . From a comparison with structure seen at millimeter wavelengths, this structure is interpreted as a disk aligned with the mole...

Characterising the complex absorber in NGC 4151

We present a detailed analysis of the complex absorption apparent in the 2–6 keV X-ray spectrum of the bright nearby Seyfert galaxy NGC 4151. We first utilize the large bandpass and medium spectral resolution afforded by BeppoSAX data to construct a 1–100 keV spectral template, which assumes the absorption arises in both warm (i.e. partially photoionized) and cold gas present in the line of sig...

Bimodal dust emission in three classical Seyfert galaxies : NGC 3227 , NGC 4051 and NGC 4151 ?

Far Infrared observations of the Seyfert galaxies NGC 3227, NGC 4051 and NGC 4151 are presented. These are the first data from a complete sample of Seyfert galaxies that is being observed by ISO as part of the ISOPHOT guaranteed time. The new ISO data, in combination with the IRAS data, show that the mid to far IR emission in all three objects can be ascribed to two well defined regimes, namely...

Fe b 20 08 Probing the Ionization Structure of the Narrow Line Region in the Seyfert 1 Galaxy NGC 4151

We present a study of the distribution of [O III] λ5007 and [O II] λ3727 emission in the Narrow Line Region (NLR) of the Seyfert 1 galaxy NGC 4151. While the NLR of NGC 4151 exhibits an overall structure consistent with the unified model of Seyfert galaxies, narrow-band [O III] and [O II] images obtained with the Wide Field and Planetary Camera 2 aboard the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) reveal s...

Absorption and Reddening in the Seyfert Galaxy NGC 3227

We have obtained low-dispersion spectra of NGC 3227 with the Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph (STIS) to study the intrinsic UV absorption and the reddening of the nucleus in this Seyfert 1 galaxy. The UV spectra show a wealth of absorption lines at the systemic redshift that span a wide range in ionization state (Mg I to N V). The equivalent widths of the lines are consistent with our earli...
