Interlayer coupling and the c-axis quasiparticle transport in high-Tc cuprates

چکیده

The c-axis quasiparticle conductivity shows different behavior depending on the nature of the interlayer coupling. For coherent coupling with a constant hopping amplitude t⊥, the conductivity at zero frequency and zero temperature σ(0, 0) depends on the direction of the magnetic field, but it does not for angle-dependent hopping t(φ) which removes the contribution of the nodal quasiparticles. For incoherent coupling, the conductivity is also independent of field direction and changes only when paramagnetic effects are included. The conductivity sum rule can be used to determine the admixture of coherent to incoherent coupling. The value of σ(0, 0) can be dominated by t⊥ while at the same time t(φ) dominates the temperature dependence of the superfluid density. PACS numbers: 74.20.-z,74.25.Gz Typeset using REVTEX 1

Nodal bilayer-splitting controlled by spin-orbit interactions in underdoped high-Tc cuprates

The highest superconducting transition temperatures in the cuprates are achieved in bilayer and trilayer systems, highlighting the importance of interlayer interactions for high Tc. It has been argued that interlayer hybridization vanishes along the nodal directions by way of a specific pattern of orbital overlap. Recent quantum oscillation measurements in bilayer cuprates have provided evidenc...

c-axis penetration depth and interlayer conductivity in the thallium-based cuprate superconductors

The c-axis Josephson plasmons in optimally doped single-layer and bilayer high-Tc cuprates Tl2Ba2CuO6 and Tl2Ba2CaCu2O8 have been investigated using infrared spectroscopy. We observed the plasma frequencies for these two compounds at 27.8 and 25.6 cm respectively, which we interpret as Josephson resonances across the TlO blocking layers. No maximum in the temperature dependence of the c-axis co...

Effects of c-axis Hopping in the Interlayer Tunneling Model of High-Tc Layered Cuprates

We consider the interlayer pair-tunneling model for layered cuprates, including an effective single particle hopping along the c-axis. A phenomenological suppression of the c-axis hopping matrix element, by the pseudogap in cuprate superconductors, is incorporated. At optimal doping, quantities characteristic to the superconducting state, such as the transition temperature and the superconducti...

Global trends in the interplane penetration depth of layered superconductors

We report on generic trends in the behavior of the interlayer penetration depth c of several different classes of quasi-two-dimensional superconductors including high-Tc cuprates, Sr2RuO4, transition-metal dichalcogenides and organic materials of the (BEDT-TTF)2X series. An analysis of these trends reveals two distinct patterns in the scaling between the values of c and the magnitude of the c-a...

Note on the magnetotransport in the normal state of high-Tc cuprates

Theories of the magnetotransport, based on the quasipartricle of the Fermiliquid, in the normal state of high-Tc cuprate superconductors, are critically examined and the necessity of the collective transport theory beyond the quasiparticle is discussed.
