چکیده
AIM The current study aims to explore the diagnosis and treatment of traumatic internal carotid artery pseudoaneurysm (TICAP) primarily manifested by repeated epistaxis. MATERIAL AND METHODS Clinical data from 31 patients suffering from repeated epistaxis after trauma were retrospectively analyzed. All patients were diagnosed definitely with pseudoaneurysm at the internal carotid cavernous sinus segment by digital subtract angiography (DSA). RESULTS Endovascular interventional therapy was performed for all the patients. 20 patients received direct occlusion of the parent artery by embolization with detachable balloons and the rest received covered stent implantation to cover the parent arterial tear. No death occurred. Epistaxis did not recur after operation. CONCLUSION DSA is the gold standard for TICAP diagnosis. Endovascular interventional therapy is the treatment of choice for TICAP. Compared with internal carotid artery occlusion with balloons, covered stent implantation is a more valuable endovascular intervention method.

Massive epistaxis secondary to pseudoaneurysm of internal carotid artery.
Post-traumatic pseudoaneurysms of internal carotid arteries are uncommon. The patients may present with massive epistaxis due to rupture of the aneurysm into the sphenoid sinus. Early diagnosis and treatment is mandatory as the likelihood of exsanguinations increases with each subsequent episode of epistaxis. The clinical features of unilateral blindness and massive epistaxis after head injury ...
متن کاملTraumatic intracranial internal carotid artery pseudoaneurysm presenting as epistaxis treated by endovascular coiling
Traumatic intracranial pseudoaneurysm is a rare complication of blunt trauma. It is even more rare when it presents as epistaxis. Massive epistaxis of a ruptured intracranial internal carotid artery pseudoaneurysm is a major cause of mortality, which requires emergency intervention. We report a case of traumatic intracranial internal carotid artery pseudoaneurysm secondary to skull base fractur...

We describe a case of traumatic intra-sphenoidal right internal carotid artery pseudoaneurysm lodged inside the fractured sphenoidal sinus that developed in a patient with a previous history of frontal and skull base fractures involving the sphenoid sinus and walls of the carotid canal, but with normal intracranial findings at early CT angiography. The patient presented two episodes of massive ...

OBJECTIVE To investigate the clinical efficacy of individual endovascular management for the treatment of different traumatic pseudoaneurysms presenting as intractable epistaxis. MATERIALS AND METHODS For 14 consecutive patients with traumatic pseudoaneurysm presenting as refractory epistaxes, 15 endovascular procedures were performed. Digital subtraction angiography revealed that the pseudoa...

Background Bioabsorbable plates are frequently utilized in the repair of skull base defects following transsphenoidal operations. Traumatic intracranial pseudoaneurysms are a rare complication of transsphenoidal surgery. To date, iatrogenic carotid pseudoaneurysm associated with the use of an absorbable plate has been reported once. Results A 57-year-old man with a large nonfunctional pituitary...
