چکیده

This article reviews analytical results and practical experience with randomized modulation in power electronic converters. After providing a brief overview of power electronics and of relevant switching patterns, we present performance specifications for converters (in terms of electromagnetic interference, vibrations and acoustic noise), and classify various randomized switching schemes. We review the most directly related references next, and introduce the mathematical objects of primary interest—averaged autocorrelation and power spectrum. We then list some results for the (simpler) case of stationary modulation and consider in detail the more general case of randomized switching based on Markov chains. Our aim is twofold—to present results important for practice and to establish connections with several areas of applied probability. Finally, we consider the synthesis task for the two cases of randomized modulation, followed by brief conclusions.

Linear AC power supplies can be replaced by their nonlinear switching counterparts due to the lower voltage drops and higher efficiency and power density of switching-mode inverters. Multilevel cascaded H-bridge (CHB) converters are the preferred inverter structure because of modular configuration, control, and protection. The output voltage quality in CHB converters depends on the number of ou...

Flexible Power Electronic Transformer for Power Flow Control Applications

This paper proposes a Flexible Power Electronic Transformer (FPET) for the application in the micro-grids. The low frequency transformer is usually used at the Point of Common Coupling (PCC) to connect the low voltage grid and utility network to each other. The conventional 50Hz transformer results in enhanced low voltage-grid power management system during grid-connected operation. In this pap...

Pulsewidth Modulation for Electronic Power Conversion

The efficient and fast control of electric power forms part of the key technologies of modern automated production. It is performed using electronic power converters. The converters transfer energy from a source to a controlled process in a quantized fashion, using semiconductor switches which are turned on and off at fast repetition rates. The algorithms which generate the switching functions ...
