چکیده
No selective inhibitor for the B type of monoamine oxidase (MAO) was known until we demonstrated that C-) Deprenil, developed by us in 1964, is a preferential inhibitor of the metabolism of benzylamine and metaiodobenzylamine. Thus it was this paper which introduced C-) Deprenil, the first highly selective inhibitor of MAO-B. [The SCI® indicates that this paper has been cited in over 215 publiCations since 1972.]

متن کاملThe relationship between human monoamine oxidase A and B
Monoamine oxidase (EC 1.4.3.4) exists in at least two forms (termed type A and type B) with different substrate and inhibitor specificities (Johnston, 1968; Knoll & Magyar, 1972). Amine neurotransmitters are among a wide range of substrates (Blaschko, 1974) and abnormalities of monoamine oxidase activity may therefore contribute to neurological disease. Most studies of such diseases have looked...

Modaline, 2-methyl-3-piperidinopyrazine derivative, was found to inhibit monoamine oxidase (MAO) (1, 2) and showed therapeutic anti-depressant activity (3). This compound potentiated convulsions induced by tryptamine and hyperthermia induced by dopa similar to other MAO inhibitors (2). Moreover, it also antagonised reserpine induced hypothermia like imipramine (2). Gylys et al. (4) showed that ...
متن کاملPSYCHIATRIC GENETICS ’99 Monoamine Oxidase in Neuropsychiatry and Behavior
Monoamine oxidase (MAO) catalyzes the oxidative deamination of a number of biogenic amines, including the key neurotransmitters serotonin (5-HT), norepinephrine (NE), and dopamine (DA) and the neuromodulator phenylethylamine (PEA). Two forms of MAO, designated “MAO A” and “MAO B,” have been identified on the basis of biochemical properties and, subsequently, by cloning the relevant genes. Of th...
