Simulations of the 2.5D inviscid primitive equations in a limited domain

چکیده
The primitive equations (PEs) of the atmosphere and the oceans without viscosity are considered. These equations are not well-posed for any set of local boundary conditions. In space dimension 2.5 a set of nonlocal boundary conditions has been proposed in [4]. The present article is aimed at testing the validity of these boundary conditions with physically relevant data. The issues tested are the well-posedness in the nonlinear case and the computational efficiency of the boundary conditions for limited area models [27].

Modelling and numerical approximation of a 2.5D set of equations for mesoscale atmospheric processes
The set of 3D inviscid primitive equations for the atmosphere is dimensionally reduced by a Discontinuous Galerkin discretization in one horizontal direction. The resulting model is a 2D system of balance laws where with a source term depending on the layering procedure and the choice of coupling fluxes, which is established in terms of upwind considerations. The “2.5D” system is discretized vi...
متن کاملA higher order Finite Volume resolution method for a system related to the inviscid primitive equations in a complex domain
We construct the cell-centered Finite Volume discretization of the twodimensional inviscid primitive equations in a domain with topography. To compute the numerical fluxes, the so-called Upwind Scheme (US) and the Central-Upwind Scheme (CUS) are introduced. For the time discretization, we use the classical 4th order RungeKutta method. We verify, with our numerical simulations, that the US (or C...

متن کاملBoundary Value Problems for the Inviscid Primitive Equations in Limited Domains
This work aims to contribute to what is considered as a major computational issue for the geophysical fluid dynamics (GFD) for the coming years, that is the boundary conditions for numerical computations in a limited domain, with a boundary that has (at least partly) no physical justification. Numerical computations in limited domains in ocean and atmosphere are ”constantly” required (and somet...
متن کاملInviscid Compressible Flow in Meridional Plane of an Axial Flow Compressor
In this paper it is attempted to investigate the behavior of an inviscid flow in the meridional plane of an axial flow compressor. For this purpose the 3-D unsteady Euler equations in cylindrical coordinate are averaged in tangential direction. Therefore, the equations are reduced to a 2-D system. By averaging the tangential component of momentum equation, a blade force will result. Axial and r...
