A case-controlled study of minimally invasive vs open hallux valgus surgery

چکیده
Methodology This is a consecutive case series performed between 2009 and 2012. This includes the learning curve for minimally invasive surgery. All cases were performed by a single surgeon at two different sites, one centre where minimally invasive surgery is available and the other where it is not. The standard procedure in both centres is a modified Chevron osteotomy. Regardless of whether the osteotomy was performed open or minimally invasive two-screw fixation was performed. Retrospective analysis includes the intermetatarsal angle (IMA), hallux valgus angle (HVA), metatarsal 1 (M1) length, forefoot width and forefoot: hindfoot ratio. Clinical outcomes include the Manchester Oxford Foot Questionnaire (MOXFQ), American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Surgeons (AOFAS) questionniare, and assessment of complications.

Minimally invasive techniques for hallux valgus correction include arthroscopy, percutaneous and minimum incision surgery. In the last few decades, several techniques have been increasingly used. We performed a comprehensive search of CINAHL, Embase, Medline, HealthSTAR and the Cochrane Central Registry of Controlled Trials, from inception of the database to 4 January 2010, using various combin...
متن کاملMinimally invasive distal metatarsal osteotomy for mild-to-moderate hallux valgus deformity.
Minimally invasive surgery has recently been introduced for foot and ankle surgery, and hallux valgus surgery is no exception. The purpose of our study was to analyze the early results and to present our experience of minimally invasive distal metatarsal osteotomy in correcting mild-to-moderate hallux valgus deformities. Between September 2005 and December 2006, 31 consecutive patients (47 feet...

PURPOSE To report the midterm outcome of the Endolog system for correction of moderate-to-severe hallux valgus. METHODS 23 women and 2 men (33 feet) aged 35 to 80 (mean, 52) years underwent minimally invasive surgery for moderate (n=25) and severe (n=8) hallux valgus using the Endolog system. The hallux valgus angle (HVA), the intermetatarsal angle (IMA), and the proximal articular set angle ...
