Quantitative Endoscopy - Virtual Interaction
نویسندگان
چکیده
Minimally invasive surgical interventions (MIS) using monocular optics lead to the loss of 3D depth perception due to the 2D visualization. Thus the surgeon must estimate the pose of 3D objects in the surgical scene solely based on his experience. Especially for residents this is very difficult due to the lack of this experience. This may lead to longer surgeries thus to more cost and higher morbidity and complication rate. In this paper an extension of the system for detecting and tracking a suturing needle and its augmented visualization on top of the 2D images from [1] is presented that visualizes the virtual interaction of the suturing needle with a registered 3D model.

An Interactive Virtual Endoscopy Tool
In this paper, we present the design and implementation of a 3D Virtual Endoscopy system for facilitating diagnostic and surgical planning phases of endoscopic procedures. Our system allows the user to interactively explore the internal surface of a 3D patient-specific anatomical model and to create and update a fly-through trajectory through the model to simulate endoscopy. We also present an ...
متن کامل3-D Modeling and Virtual Endoscopy of the Small Bowel Based on MR Imaging in Patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease Investigative Radiology 2002;37(9):528-533
Rationale and Objectives: Small bowel MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) is a new imaging modality which excellently depicts small intestine pathology in patients with inflammatory bowel disease. Virtual endoscopy based on sectional imaging is a recently introduced technique to create endoscopy like views. The aim of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of virtual small bowel endoscopy base...
متن کاملVirtual endoscopy using spherical QuickTime-VR panorama views.
Virtual endoscopy needs some precomputation of the data (segmentation, path finding) before the diagnostic process can take place. We propose a method that precomputes multinode spherical panorama movies using Quick-Time VR. This technique allows almost the same navigation and visualization capabilities as a real endoscopic procedure, a significant reduction of interaction input is achieved and...
متن کاملImplementation of a Haptic Interface for a Virtual Reality Simulator for Flexible Endoscopy
A simulation system for flexible endoscopy is described, based on virtual reality techniques. The physician moves the flexible endoscope inside a pipe, in which forces are applied to it. In addition the navigation wheels provide force feedback from the bending of the endoscope’s tip. The paper focuses on the design and implementation of the special purpose haptic display which actively generate...
متن کاملPath extraction in 3D medical images for virtual endoscopy
This paper presents a fast and eecient algorithm that computes a path useful for guiding endoscopic viewing that only depends on a start and end point. This is based on previous work (Cohen and Kimmel, 1997) for extracting paths in 2D images, given only the two extremities of the path and the image as inputs, with a front propagation equation. This technique maps the active contours (Kass et al...
