conformational properties and the anomeric effect study of phosphinanes

Ab initio HF/6-31G* Methode was employed to calculate the bond length in 2- phosphinanes when electronegative groups was at C-2 tend axial and equatorial positions. The magnitude of the anomeric effect depends on the nature of the substituent, the effect of the substituent can be seen by comparing the bond length in 2-chloro and 2- boromo substituented phosphinanes. The effect of anomeric effec...

Fifty years of Clinical Chemistry, three pioneering editors.

Dr. Harold D. Appleton, a Dedicated Beginning When Dr. Harold D. Appleton took over the small, semi-regular newsletter, The Clinical Chemist, from Dr. Andre Kibrick, he “ate, drank and slept ‘The Clinical Chemist,’” according to Irving Sunshine, PhD. Dr. Appleton took over as editor in 1950 after working for 1 year as assistant editor under Dr. Kibrick. During his editorship, Appleton developed...

The biochemical service: the professional function of the clinical chemist in the hospital.

Ed. note: Continuing comment on the role of the clinical chemist Icf. Clin. Chem. 23 1961 (1977)1. A major step in rectifying the “disastrous impact” mentioned here was the first Arnold 0. Beckman conference Icf. Clin. Chem. 23, 1379 (1977)1, the proceedings of which will be published by AACC later this year. This conference has received a good deal of praise from the participants, and was evid...

Automated determination of acid phosphatase. II. Technic for using robot chemist.

A procedure is presented for the automated determination of acid phosphatase activity in biological materials using the Robot Chemist. Although either phenylphosphate and a-naphthylphosphate may be used as substrate in this analysis, the procedure is described in detail for serum acid phosphatase using a-naphthylphosphate in 0.1 M citrate, pH 5.2, since this substrate is more selective for pros...

An automated p-nitrophenylphosphate serum alkaline phosphatase procedure for the "Robot Chemist".

A new, precise, and accurate procedure is described for the automated determination of serum alkaline phosphatase on the Robot Chemist. The substrate, p-nitrophenylphosphate in 2-amino-2-methyl-1-propanol, offers the prime advantage of providing directly its own chromogen, p-nitrophenol, following enzyme action. Other advantages are the small sample volumes required and linear reaction rates. C...

The role of physician in ethnopharmacological investigations

The essence of ethnopharmacology is interdisciplinary research that usually involves traditional healers, botanists, chemists and pharmacologists. The role of researchers from pertaining disciplines is well defined in ethnopharmacological investigations. However, the exact role of a physician has not yet been distinctly clear in ethnopharmacological investigations. Historical data shows that di...
