چکیده

INTRODUCTION High-temperature superconducting (HTS) Helmholtz coil pairs have been shown to provide substantial increases in signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) for applications in NMR and MR microscopy (1, 2). One limitation of HTS coils is that their non-linear response to applied power produces distortion of shaped RF pulses (3). Through the use of a previously reported field mapping technique (4) modified for application to high field microscopy, we have developed a simple method for measuring coil linearity. In addition, this technique has provided insight into RF pulse behavior in the presence of off-resonance effects.

Assessment of the Characteristics of MRI Coils in Terms of RF Non-Homogeneity Using Routine Spin Echo Sequences

Introduction: One of the major causes of image non-uniformity in MRI is due to the existence of  non-homogeneity in RF receive and transmit. This can be the most effective source of error in  quantitative  studies  in  MRI  imaging.  Part  of  this  non-homogeneity  demonstrates  the  characteristics of RF coil and part of it is due to the interaction of RF field with the material being  imaged...

High-Temperature Superconducting RF Coils for 3T MRI

One way to reduce receiving coil noise in MRI scans is using non-resistive high-temperature superconducting (HTS) coils[1]. In this work we built a Bi-2223 tape HTS RF coil and tested its performance. Test results were in agreement with predictions, and a SNR gain of about 2.5 was obtained from the HTS tape coil over a conventional copper surface coil. Introduction Using superconducting coil in...

Superconducting RF Coils for Clinical MR Imaging at Low Field1

Rationale and Objectives. A number of recent reports in the MRI literature have established that substantial signal-tonoise ratio (SNR) gains can be achieved with small samples or low resonance frequencies, through the use of high-quality factor high-temperature superconducting (HTS) RF receive coils. We show the application of HTS coils to the imaging of human subjects with improved SNR compar...

A birdcage coil tuned by RF shielding for application at 9.4 T.

The design and performance of an inductively fed low-pass birdcage radiofrequency (RF) coil for applications at 9.4 T are described where tuning is accomplished by mechanically moving a concentric RF shield about the longitudinal axis of an RF coil. Moving the shield about the RF coil effectively changes the mutual inductance of the system, providing a mechanism for adjusting the resonant frequ...

Design of Superconducting MRI Surface Coil by Using Method of Moment

A method of moment with an enhanced model to design high-temperature superconductor (HTS) RF surface coils for magnetic resonant image (MRI) is presented. The resonant frequency and quality factor ( ) of HTS RF spiral coils are simulated using this method. The agreements of resonant frequencies and s between the simulation and measurement are excellent with differences less than 1% and 3%, resp...
