ECG Signal Enhancement Using Wavelet Transform

ECG is an important tool for the primary diagnosis of heart disease; it shows the electrophysiology of the heart and the ischemic changes that may occur like the myocardial infarction, conduction defects, and arrhythmia. The ECG signal must be clearly represented and filtered to remove all noise and artifacts from the signal. In this paper a new approach to filter the ECG signal from noise is proposed using Wavelet Transform WT. Different ECG signals are used and the method evaluated using MATLAB’ software. The aim of this paper is to adapt the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) to enhance the (ECG) signal. The presented method showed good results comparing to conventional methods particularly in ECG signal case. This method has better performance than Donoho’s discrete wavelet thresholding coefficients and FIR filter. Key-Words: ECG signal; Filtration; Wavelet Transform; noise and artifacts.
