چکیده

Complete attitude control of a spacecraft is not possible with only one single-gimbal variable-speed control moment gyro due to the conservation of angular momentum. However, partial attitude control without violating the angular momentum conservation principle is still possible. In this paper feedback controllers using only one singlegimbal variable-speed controlmoment gyro are presented that drive all three components of the angular velocity of a rigid spacecraft to zero, while at the same time a spacecraft body-axis points along an arbitrary inertial direction. To solve this problem, we first introduce a pair of angles to parametrize all feasible final spacecraft orientations at rest without violating the angularmomentum constraint. Based on this parametrization, an LQR control law is designed to locally achieve the control objective. Afterwards, a multistage control law is proposed to achieve the same control objective for large initial conditions.

Spacecraft Angular Velocity and Line-of-Sight Control Using A Single-Gimbal Variable-Speed Control Moment Gyro

It is well known that complete attitude control of a spacecraft is not possible with only one single-gimbal Variable-Speed Control Moment Gyro (VSCMG) due to the conservation of the angular momentum. However, partial attitude control without violating the angular momentum conservation principle is still possible. In this paper, feedback controllers that stabilize the angular velocity vector of ...

Spacecraft Angular Velocity Stabilization Using A Single-Gimbal Variable Speed Control Moment Gyro

Feedback controllers for the stabilization of the angular velocity vector of a rigid spacecraft using a single-gimbal Variable Speed Control Moment Gyro (VSCMG) are presented. Linearization of the equations of motion show that complete attitude stabilization is not possible via linear methods. Nonetheless, it is shown that the linearized angular velocity equations are controllable, and a simple...

Mode-Scheduling Steering Law of VSCMGs for Multi-Target Pointing and Agile Maneuver of a Spacecraft

This study proposes a method of selecting a set of gimbal angles in the final state and applies the method to the mode-scheduling steering law of variable-speed control moment gyros intended for multi-target pointing manoeuvres in the threeaxis attitude control of a spacecraft. The proposed method selects reference final gimbal angles, considering the condition numbers of the Jacobian matrix of...

IAA-AAS-DyCoSS2-14 -07-06 ATTITUDE CONTROL OF A SPACECRAFT WITH A DOUBLE-GIMBAL VARIABLE-SPEED CONTROL MOMENT GYRO VIA LPV CONTROL THEORY

In this paper, we analyze dynamics of a DGVSCMG(Double-Gimbal VariableSpeed Control Moment Gyro) and develop an easy-to-use LPV (Linear ParameterVarying) model, in which we deal with 3-axis attitude control of a spacecraft equipped with a DGVSCMG. Although it is hard to consider overall stability and control performance of attitude control at the same time with conventional methods, this paper ...

Singularity Analysis and Avoidance of Variable-Speed Control Moment Gyros – Part II : Power Constraint Case

A Variable Speed Control Moment Gyro (VSCMG) is a relatively recent torque actuator device for spacecraft attitude control. As implied by its name, a VSCMG is a singlegimbal control moment gyro (CMG) with a flywheel having variable speed. Owing to this extra degree of freedom, a VSCMG can be used to achieve additional objectives, such as power tracking and/or singularity avoidance, as well as a...
