An Elementary Proof of Ramanujan’s Circular Summation Formula and Its Generalizations
In this paper, we give a completely elementary proof of Ramanujan’s circular summation formula of theta functions and its generalizations given by S. H. Chan and Z. -G. Liu, who used the theory of elliptic functions. In contrast to all other proofs, our proofs are elementary. An application of this summation formula is given.
متن کاملMaclaurin’s Inequality and a Generalized Bernoulli Inequality
Maclaurin’s inequality is a natural, but nontrivial, generalization of the arithmetic-geometric mean inequality. We present a new proof that is based on an analogous generalization of Bernoulli’s inequality. Applications of Maclaurin’s inequality to iterative sequences and probability are discussed, along with a graph-theoretic version of the inequality.
متن کاملElementary proofs of some q-identities of Jackson and Andrews-Jain
We present elementary proofs of three q-identities of Jackson. They are Jackson’s terminating q-analogue of Dixon’s sum, Jackson’s q-analogue of Clausen’s formula, and a generalization of both of them. We also give an elementary proof of Jain’s q-analogue of terminating Watson’s summation formula, which is actually equivalent to Andrews’s q-analogue of Watson’s formula.
متن کامل(formulas of Brion, Lawrence, and Varchenko on Rational Generating Functions for Cones)
We discuss and give elementary proofs of results of Brion and of Lawrence– Varchenko on the lattice-point enumerator generating functions for polytopes and cones. This largely expository note contains a new proof of Brion’s Formula using irrational decompositions, and a generalization of the Lawrence–Varchenko formula.
متن کاملOn the norm of the derived subgroups of all subgroups of a finite group
In this paper, we give a complete proof of Theorem 4.1(ii) and a new elementary proof of Theorem 4.1(i) in [Li and Shen, On the intersection of the normalizers of the derived subgroups of all subgroups of a finite group, J. Algebra, 323 (2010) 1349--1357]. In addition, we also give a generalization of Baer's Theorem.
