Numerical streamline patterns at swimmer's surface using RANS equations.

چکیده
The objective of this article is to perform a numerical modeling on the flow dynamics around a competitive female swimmer during the underwater swimming phase for a velocity of 2.2 m/s corresponding to national swimming levels. Flow around the swimmer is assumed turbulent and simulated with a computational fluid dynamics method based on a volume control approach. The 3D numerical simulations have been carried out with the code ANSYS FLUENT and are presented using the standard k-ω turbulence model for a Reynolds number of 6.4 × 10(6). To validate the streamline patterns produced by the simulation, experiments were performed in the swimming pools of the National Institute of Sports and Physical Education in Paris (INSEP) by using the tufts method.

Prediction of turbulent heat transfer in impinging jet geometries
This chapter summarizes the current knowledge on the numerical prediction of turbulent impinging jet flows. The predictive capabilities of numerical models are evaluated by careful comparison with experimental fluid flow and heat transfer data. Turbulent fluctuations in the velocity field are mathematically modelled using the Reynolds Averaged Navier–Stokes (RANS) methodology. Turbulence is ass...
متن کاملNumerical Study on Resistance of a Bulk Carrier Vessel Using CFD Method
Bulk carriers have an important role in international maritime transport. In this paper, we carried out a numerical study on a model of bulk carrier vessel and calculated total resistance of the model. A model of a bulk carrier vessel with length of 2.76 m, breadth of 0.403 m and draught of 0.173 m was selected for numerical modeling. Numerical work was done by commercial CFD software ANSY...

This research adopts the quasi three-dimensional hydraulic design method for the impeller of high specific speed mixed-flow pump to achieve the purpose of verifying the hydraulic design method and improving hydraulic performance. Based on the two families of stream surface theory, the direct problem is completed when the meridional flow field of impeller is obtained by employing iterative calcu...
متن کاملNumerical modeling of submarine mass-movement generated waves using RANS model
In this paper a numerical model for predicting waves generated by nearshore submarine mass-movements is described. The model is based on the Reynolds averaged Navier–Stokes (RANS) equations with the k2e turbulence model. The volume of fluid (VOF) method is employed to track the free surface. Numerical results obtained from the present model are validated with laboratory experiments and analytic...
متن کاملDesign of free-surface interfaces using RANS equations
In this paper, the continuous adjoint methodology to compute shape sensitivities in free-surface hydrodynamic design problems (RANS governing systems) has been developed. This technique will allow the specific design of the free-surface interface (typically air/water), which has a great potential in problems where the target is to reduce the wave energy, e.g. ship hull design. A detailed descri...
