چکیده

We present results of measurements of spot size and angular divergence of a 30 GeV electron beam though use of optical transition radiation (OTR). The OTR near field pattern and far field distribution are measured as a function of beam spot size and divergence at wavelengths of 441, 532, and 800 nm, for both the single and double foil configurations. Electron beam spot sizes of 50μm rms have been resolved, demonstrating the utility of OTR for measurement of small beam spot sizes of high energy (30 GeV) electron beams. Two-foil interference was clearly observed and utilized to extract electron beam angular divergences of ∼ 100μrad.

E-157: A 1.4-m-long plasma wake field acceleration experiment using a 30 GeV electron beam from the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center Linac*

In the E-157 experiment now being conducted at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, a 30 GeV electron beam of 2310 electrons in a 0.65-mm-long bunch is propagated through a 1.4-m-long lithium plasma of density up to 2310 e/cm. The initial beam density is greater than the plasma density, and the head of the bunch expels the plasma electrons leaving behind a uniform ion channel with transverse...

Investigation of the Effect of Electron Beam Different Doses on Optical Dissipation in Fiber Optic

Measurement of ionizing radiation in various fields, such as environmental safety, industrial detection processes, radiation protection and medical is very important. Radiation dosimetry plays an important role in determining the amount of energy absorbed and the effects of radiation. Recent optical fiber sensors have been shown to be radiation dosimeters. Our goal here is to investigate the ef...

Plasma density from Cerenkov radiation, betatron oscillations, and beam steering in a plasma wakefield experiment at 30 GeV

Measurements of radiation near the 670.8 nm atomic spectral line of Lithium as a 30 GeV electron beam propagates through a long, high density heat pipe oven (∼ 1 meter, neutral density ∼ 1015cm−3) have been performed. Practical considerations in the use of Cerenkov radiation as an automatically synchronized diagnostic of the plasma source properties are investigated. Parametric scans of the Cer...

A Source of Coherent Soft X-ray Radiation Based on High-order Harmonic Generation and Free Electron Lasers∗

We examine a scheme for a Free Electron Laser (FEL) harmonic amplifier seeded by a 30-nm wavelength signal produced using a process of High-order Harmonic Generation (HHG). The seed is first amplified in an optical klystron from 100 kW to 30 MW using a 1 GeV electron beam and then is used for an energy modulation of electrons in the downstream undulator. Subsequently, a 100MW level of radiation...

Non-intercepting electron beam diagnostics using diffraction ra- diation

The Linear Collider presents new challenges for beam instrumentation. Some of the beam dimensions are of the order of a few nm (at the i.p.), and to be able to reach these small sizes, the beams have to be tightly controlled and understood from their very inception onward. A number of different techniques are available in the arsenal of beam size and beam emittance measurements (e.g. transition...
