Learning agents need no induction

چکیده
It has been suggested that AI investigations of mechanical learning undermine sweeping anti-inductivist views in the theory of knowledge and the philosophy of science. In particular, it is claimed that some mechanical learning systems perform epistemically justified inductive generalization and prediction. Contrary to this view, it is argued that no trace of such epistemic justification is to be found within a rather representative class of learning agents drawn from machine learning and robotics. Moreover, an alternative deductive account of these learning procedures is outlined. Finally, the opportunity of developing an induction-free logical analysis of non-monotonic reasoning in autonomous learning agents – capable of advancing and revising learning or background hypotheses – is emphasized by a broad reflection on some families of non-monotonic, albeit deductive, consequence relations.1

Constructive Induction-based Learning Agents: An Architecture and Preliminary Experiments
This paper introduces a new type of intelligent agent called a constructive induction-based learning agent (CILA). This agent differs from other adaptive agents because it has the ability to not only learn how to assist a user in some task, but also to incrementally adapt its knowledge representation space to better fit the given learning task. The agent’s ability to autonomously make problem-o...
متن کاملImproving Agent Performance for Multi-Resource Negotiation Using Learning Automata and Case-Based Reasoning
In electronic commerce markets, agents often should acquire multiple resources to fulfil a high-level task. In order to attain such resources they need to compete with each other. In multi-agent environments, in which competition is involved, negotiation would be an interaction between agents in order to reach an agreement on resource allocation and to be coordinated with each other. In recent ...
متن کاملInteraction of colchicine with nitric oxide in CA1 on the expression of drug seeking behavior induced by morphine
Introduction: According to previous studies, colchicine causes neuronal destruction and learning depression. In this project, effects of colchicine injection into the CA1 and interaction between colchicine and nitric oxide (NO) in this area on the expression of drug-seeking behavior were investigated. Methods: Wistar rats (250-300 g) were bilaterally cannulated at the CA1 area. Colchicine (2...

Service oriented systems need to be maintained to keep the requested level of service. This is challenge in large gridand saas based networks that are managed by numerous entities. This paper is about supporting multi agent systems that operate in the network and support its management by learning actual structures from life observed logging data. We focus on a collaborative grammar induction m...
متن کاملTHE DILEMMA OF HEMODYNAMIC INSTABILITY DURING INDUCTION OF ANESTHESIA: CAN MIDAZOLAM SERVE AS A SUITABLE SUBSTITUTE FOR THIOPENTONE?
Both midazolam and thiopental sodium are being used as induction agents and for maintenance of anesthesia. In contrast to other benzodiazepines such as diazepam, midazolam has a rapid onset of action and fast distribution and causes few cardiovascular or respiratory effects. Being water soluble, midazolam is also associated with a low incidence of venous irritation. The purpose of this stu...
