Awareness and Novelty in Explicit (Deliberative) and Implicit (Evocative) Learning and Memory of Artificial Grammar

چکیده
Contrary to standard cognitive theories of unconscious implicit learning, a mentalistic theory (Dulany, 1997) holds the following: Implicit learning establishes associative-activational links between conscious sub-propositional representations (evocative mental episodes), for example, those linking aspects of a letter string with its grammatical classification. With this specificity, transfer should be limited to later presentation of old letter sequences within old letter sets. Explicit learning, however, through testing consciously represented propositional hypotheses (deliberative mental episodes), should with explicit memory inferentially transfer to novel sequences within old letter sets, and to novel letter strings if there is conscious insight into novel-old letter relations.

The Comparative Effect of Task Type and Learning Conditions on the Achievement of Specific Target Forms
The completion mode (individual, collaborative) of the tasks and the conditions under which these modes are performed have been reported to play an important role in language learning. The present study aimed to investigate the effects of employing text editing tasks performed both individually and collaboratively, on the achievement of English grammar under explicit and implicit learning condi...
متن کاملThe Impact of Structured Input-based Tasks on L2 Learners’ Grammar Learning
Abstract Task-based language teaching has received increased attention in second language research. However, the combination of structured input-based approach and task-based language teaching has not been examined in relation to L2 grammar learning. To address this gap, the present study investigated how the structured input-based tasks with and without explicit information impacted learners’ ...

Abstract The aim of this study was to investigate the role of working memory capacity and errorless and errorful practice on the learning the relative timing was a motor task. 50 Participants based on were selected aged 22±4 years as accessible samples randomly assigned to one of four groups (errorless low working memory capacity, errorful low working memory capacity, errorless high working me...
متن کاملIntact implicit learning in schizophrenia.
OBJECTIVE Schizophrenia impairs performance on explicit, but not implicit, memory tasks, indicating that conscious awareness at retrieval is a critical determinant of impaired memory. The authors investigated implicit learning, i.e., knowledge acquisition in the absence of conscious awareness, in patients with schizophrenia. METHOD An artificial grammar learning task was used to assess implic...
