چکیده
We review the ability of redshift surveys to provide constraints on the Dark Energy content of the Universe. The matter power spectrum and dynamics at the present epoch are nearly ‘blind’ to Dark Energy, but combined with the CMB they can provide a constraint on the Equation of State parameter w. A representative result from the 2dF galaxy redshift survey combined with the CMB is w < −0.52 (95% CL; with a prior of w ≥ −1), consistent with Einstein’s Cosmological Constant model (w = −1). More complicated forms of Quintessence (e.g. epoch-dependent w or w < −1) are not yet ruled out. At higher redshifts, the abundance of galaxies and clusters of galaxies, variants of the Alcock-Paczynski curvature test and cross correlation of the CMB with radio sources look potentially promising, but they suffer from degeneracy with other parameters such as the matter density and galaxy biasing.

The global star formation rate (SFR) density is estimated from the star formation histories (SFHs) of Local Group galaxies. This is found to be broadly consistent with estimates of the global SFH from existing redshift surveys for two favoured cosmologies. It also provides additional evidence for a relatively constant global SFR density at high redshift (z > 1).

Quantum model of homogeneous and isotropic universe predicts logarithmic-law dependence of coordinate distance to source on redshift z which is in good agreement with type Ia supernovae and radio galaxies observations for the redshift range z = 0.01 − 1.8. Comparison with phenomenological models with dark energy in the form of cosmological constant and without dark energy component is made. Flu...

Hughes & Gaztañaga (2001, see article in these proceedings) have presented realistic simulations to address key issues confronting existing and forthcoming submm surveys. An important aspect illustrated by the simulations is the effect induced on the counts by the sampling variance of the large-scale galaxy clustering. We find factors of up to ∼ 2 − 4 variation (from the mean) in the extracted ...
