چکیده

A study of the angular size-redshift relation for models in which Λ decays as the energy density Abstract. By modifying the Chen and Wu ansatz, we have investigated some Friedmann models in which Λ varies as ρ. In order to test the consistency of the models with observations, we study the angular size-red-shift relation for 256 ultracompact radio sources selected by Jackson and Dodgson. The angular sizes of these sources were determined by using very long-baseline interferometry in order to avoid any evolutionary effects. The models fit the data very well and require an accelerating universe with a positive cosmological constant. Open, flat and closed models are almost equally probable, though the open model provides a comparatively better fit to the data. The models are found to have intermediate density and imply the existence of dark matter, though not as much as in the canonical Einstein-de Sitter model.

In homogeneous isotropic cosmological models the angular size of a standard measuring rod changes with redshift z in a manner which depends upon the parameters of the model. It has been argued that as a population ultracompact (milliarcsecond) radio-sources measured by very long-baseline interferometry (VLBI) do not evolve with cosmic epoch, and thus comprise a set of standard objects, at least...

Consequences on variable Λ-models from distant Type Ia supernovae and compact radio sources

We study the magnitude-redshift relation for the Type Ia supernovae data and the angular size-redshift relation for the updated compact radio sources data (from Gurvits et al) by considering four variable Λ-models: Λ ∼ S, Λ ∼ H, Λ ∼ ρ and Λ ∼ t. It is found that all the variable Λ-models, as well as the constant ΛFriedmann model, fit the supernovae data equally well with χ/dof ≈ 1 and require n...

Minimal Angular Size of Distant Sources in Open , Λ CDM , and Scalar Field Cosmologies

We propose a simple method for determining the redshift z m at which the angular size of an extragalactic source with fixed proper diameter takes its minimal value. A closed analytical expression, which is quite convenient for numerical evaluation is derived. The method is exemplified with the following FRW type expanding universes: the open matter dominated models (Ω Λ = 0), a critical density...

Evaluation of the electron energy fluence and angular distributions from a clinical accelerator. A BEAMnrc Monte Carlo study

Background: Understanding of the incident electron energy and angular distributions from clinical electron accelerators (linacs) is important for dosimetry and treatment planning. The most important goals of this study were to evaluate the energy fluence and angular distributions of electron beams from a Neptun 10PC linac using the Monte Carlo (MC) code. Materials and Methods: The lina...
