NetLogo HotLink Replay: a tool for exploring, analyzing and interpreting mathematical change in complex systems

چکیده
Some of the most important patterns of change that we encounter in our everyday world – global warming, fluctuations in the unemployment rate, voter trends – are produced by the interactions and accumulation of many different individuals and events. This interactive poster will demonstrate NetLogo HotLink Replay, a computational tool designed to provide students a context to reconcile large-scale patterns of mathematical change with the interactions and events that contribute to and are reflected by that change.

Turtle Histories and Alternate Universes: Exploratory Modeling with Netlogo and Mathematica
This paper presents the design of a development platform integrating NetLogo, a multiagent programmable modeling environment with the Mathematica scientific computing environment. We will discuss the affordances of such environments, which can simplify and enrich the research process for agent-based modelers. More specifically, we will demonstrate the advantages of having real-time exchange of ...
متن کاملFinding Forms of Flocking: Evolutionary Search in ABM Parameter-Spaces
While agent-based models (ABMs) are becoming increasingly popular for simulating complex and emergent phenomena in many fields, understanding and analyzing ABMs poses considerable challenges. ABM behavior often depends on many model parameters, and the task of exploring a model’s parameter space and discovering the impact of different parameter settings can be difficult and time-consuming. Exha...
متن کاملThinking Within and Between Levels: Exploring Reasoning with Multi-Level Linked Models
This poster presents a pilot study with a prototype technology that allows learners to link agent-based models written in NetLogo models and run them simultaneously as a coupled system. We describe ongoing design work using this prototype to investigate how learners conceptualize multi-level modeling of complex systems in ecology.
متن کاملAgent-Based and Individual-Based Modeling: A Practical Introduction by Steven F. Railsback and Volker Grimm
Agent-based modeling is a new technique for understanding how the dynamics of biological, social, and other complex systems arise from the characteristics and behaviors of the agents making up these systems. This innovative textbook gives students and scientists the skills to design, implement, and analyze agent-based models. It starts with the fundamentals of modeling and provides an introduct...
متن کاملEasing Parameter Sensitivity Analysis of Netlogo Simulations using SPARTAN
In attempts to further understand complex systems at an individual level, the application of agent-based modeling is becoming prevalent across a range of academic disciplines. With the advantages of being multi-platform, requiring little programming experience, and supported by a large number of freely available case study examples, Netlogo has become a popular choice as the software tool to ap...
