The Role of the Spinal Dura Mater in Spinal Subluxation

چکیده

This paper examines the evidence for the role of dural attachments in the biomechanical and patho-physiological manifestations of Spinal Subluxation. The scientific literature is reviewed in relation to anatomical, biomechanical, physiological and clinical considerations. The paper examines the implications of these factors in the context of “Tonal” Chiropractic models. © Dr Nick Hodgson 2006 www.torquerelease.com.au

Idiopathic spinal cord herniation with duplicated dura mater and dorsal subarachnoid septum. Report of a case and review of the literature

BACKGROUND Idiopathic spinal cord herniation (ISCH) is a rare condition and its pathogenesis remains unclear. The purpose of this case report is to present an ISCH case with dorsal subarachnoid septum suggesting the pathogenesis of ISCH being adhesions from preexisting inflammation. METHODS Single case report. RESULTS A 60-year-old woman presented with Brown-Séquard syndrome below the level...

Mechanical Properties of Dura Mater from the Rat Brain and Spinal Cord

The dura mater is the outermost and most substantial meningial layer of central nervous system (CNS) tissue that acts as a protective membrane for the brain and spinal cord. In animal models of traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury, mechanical insults are often delivered directly to the dura to injure the underlying tissue. As such, including a description of the mechanical properties o...

Idiopathic Hypertrophic Pachymeningitis in the Craniocervical Junction

Idiopathic hypertrophic pachymeningitis (IHP) is a rare disease, and it is characterized by chronic progressive inflammatory fibrosis and thickening of the dura mater with resultant compression of the spinal cord or neural structure without any identifiable cause. It can occur in the intracranial or spinal dura mater alone or as a craniospinal form. The spinal form is rarer than the cranial for...

Pia Mater Significantly Contributes to Spinal Cord Intraparenchymal Pressure in a Simulated Model of Edema.

STUDY DESIGN Intraparenchymal pressure (IPP) measurements in an in vitro cadaveric model of CNS edema. OBJECTIVE To assess the contribution of pia mater to IPP and the effect of piotomy. SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA Multicenter randomized control trials have shown that decompression with durotomy/duroplasty significantly decreases intracranial pressure (ICP). There is a paucity of evidence re...
