چکیده

Using a two-dimensional galaxy image decomposition technique, we extract global bulge and disk parameters for a complete sample of early type disk galaxies in the near infrared K band. We find significant correlation of the bulge parameter n with the central bulge surface brightness μb(0) and with effective radius re. Using bivariate analysis techniques, we find that logn, log re and μb(0) are distributed in a plane with small scatter. We do not find a strong correlation of n with bulge-to-disk luminosity ratio, contrary to earlier reports. re and the disk scale length rd are well correlated for these early type disk galaxies, but with large scatter. We examine the implications of our results to various bulge formation scenarios in disk galaxies. An imaging survey of 341 nearby early{type galaxies in the the near{infrared K{band atmospheric window (2:2m) is described. The galaxies primarily reside in 13 nearby rich clusters (85%), while some additional galaxies are drawn from loose groups (12%) and the general eld (3%). Surface photome-try was measured for the entire sample. Detailed corrections were derived from an extensive grid of se...

BVRI Surface Photometry of (S+S) Binary Galaxies

We report the first results of our multicolour broad-band BVRI photometry for a statistically well defined sample of interacting pairs, drawn from the Catalogue of Isolated Pairs of Galaxies in the Northern Hemisphere Karachentsev (1972). At present, the details of photometric structure of disk-disk (S+S) galaxies are just beginning to be studied because of their intrinsic difficulties. We take...

Near-Infrared bulge-disk correlations of lenticular galaxies

We consider the luminosity and environmental dependence of structural parameters of lenticular galaxies in the near-infrared K band. Using a two-dimensional galaxy image decomposition technique, we extract bulge and disk structural parameters for a sample of 36 lenticular galaxies observed by us in the K band. By combining data from the literature for field and cluster lenticulars with our data...

Near - infrared observations of galaxies in Pisces - Perseus : I . H - band surface photometry of 174 spirals ⋆

We present near–infrared, H–band (1.65μm), surface photometry of 174 spiral galaxies in the area of the Pisces–Perseus supercluster. The images, acquired with the ARNICA camera mounted on various telescopes, are used to derive radial profiles of surface brightness, ellipticities, and position angles, together with global parameters such as H-band magnitudes and diameters . The mean relation bet...

A Survey of Merger Remnants. Iii. Are Merger Remnants Supported by Rotation or Anisotropy?

A growing body of observational evidence suggests that the luminosity, photometric shape, and amount of rotational or anisotropic support in elliptical galaxies may provide vital clues to how they formed. Elliptical galaxies appear to fall into two distinct categories based on these parameters: bright, boxy-shaped, and having little or no rotation, and less luminous, disky-shaped, and having si...
