چکیده

We studied bromine and iodine adsorption on an Fe(100) surface in the temperature range of 110 K to 700 K. In this communication we compare core-level binding energies of dissociatively and molecularly adsorbed halogen species as a function of coverage. Our valence band photoemission data suggest that bromine and iodine adsorption at 300 K is always dissociative. At 110 K, initial dissociative adsorption is followed by condensation of molecular halogens. At 300 K the core-level binding energies EK of bromine and iodine decrease as a function of coverage by 0.2 eV and 0.7 eV, respectively. The H~ values found for the condensed molecular species are identical to or even lower by 0.3 eV than for the room temperature saturated bromine and iodine overlayers, respectively.

The Effect of Cu Impurity on the CO-dissociation Mechanism on the Fe (100) Surface: A Full Potential DFT Study

In this study, the theoretical calculations of CO dissociation were carried out on Cu-Fe alloy surface by a full-potential method, which made more accurate results especially on the prediction of adsorption energies. This process may be governed by either a direct route or a H-assisted via HCO and COH intermediates pathways. In comparison to the pure surface Fe (100), the presence of Cu atom en...

Adsorption on bcc (110) surfaces with first-, second-, and third-neighbor interactions

Third-neighbor adsorbate–adsorbate interactions are included to extend the low-temperature adsorption study recently published on body-centered-cubic (110) surfaces, infinite in one direction and of finite width, M, with nonperiodic boundaries. In addition to the six phases reported earlier on the infinite two-dimensional surface (M8), 11 new phases have been found for an exhaustive total of t...

Spectrophotometric Study of the Complexation of Iodine and Bromine with Tetrabutylammonium Halides and Cryptand 222 in Dichloromethane Solution

A spectrophotometric study concerning the interactoin between iodine and bromine with tetrabutylammonium iodide (TBAI), tetrabutyl- ammonium bromide (TBABr) and cryptand 222 (C222) has been performed in dichloromethane solution at 25°C. The results are indicative of the formation of TBA+X3- and  C222X+X3-  t...

بررسی سینتیک و سازوکار سنتز NH3 بر سطح کاتالیستهای مدل Fe(100) و K/Fe(100)

In this investigation kinetics and mechanism of NH3 synthesis over Fe(100) and K/Fe(100) model catalysts have been studied. In this context, adsorption kinetics of both N2/Fe (100) and H2/Fe (100)systems is initially investigated. By using statistical mechanic approach, we have determined the adsorption coefficient for N2 and H2 molecules as well as transition probability of different states ...

Thermodynamic Interpretation of Core-level Binding Energies in Adsorbates

Using the “equivalent cores” approximation in combination with a Born-Haber cycle we calculate core-level binding energies for adsorbates on metal surfaces. Since accurate thermodynamic data are required for the molecule both in the initial and in the final state, we restrict our discussion to adsorbed carbon monoxide, surface species that contain nitrogen and the halogens bromine and iodine. R...
