Endodontic treatment for a Bengal tiger.

چکیده
Tebore, an almost 500 pound Bengal tiger (subspecies of the Siberian tiger) is a star attraction at a small, private children’s zoo in Visalia, California. This beautiful tiger, with its characteristic bright coloured fur is frequently taken on ‘field trips’ to primary schools where he is petted and hugged by children, including mentally-retarded children. Although Tebore is quite domesticated, his owner was concerned that he might snap at a child. To minimize a potential puncture-tear injury from the canines, the owner and the zoo’s veterinarian requested that the four ‘fangs’ be reduced in length and root canal treatment for the remaining tooth structure completed. Root treatment was preferred to extraction because the animal is also used to make television commercials when i t has to look ferocious. By keeping the roots of the canines it would be possible to construct plastic ‘fangs’ which would be attached to

Blue light-mediated inactivation of Enterococcus faecalis in vitro.
In dentistry, residual infection remains a major cause of failure after endodontic treatment; many of these infections involve Enterococcus faecalis. In the current study, we explored the possibility that blue light activated photosensitizers could be used, in principle, to inactivate this microbe as an adjunct disinfection strategy for endodontic therapy. Three blue light absorbing photosensit...
متن کاملPanel of polymorphic heterologous microsatellite loci to genotype critically endangered Bengal tiger: a pilot study
In India, six landscapes and source populations that are important for long-term conservation of Bengal tigers (Panthera tigris tigris) have been identified. Except for a few studies, nothing is known regarding the genetic structure and extent of gene flow among most of the tiger populations across India as the majority of them are small, fragmented and isolated. Thus, individual-based relation...
متن کاملTigers of Sundarbans in India: Is the Population a Separate Conservation Unit?
The Sundarbans tiger inhabits a unique mangrove habitat and are morphologically distinct from the recognized tiger subspecies in terms of skull morphometrics and body size. Thus, there is an urgent need to assess their ecological and genetic distinctiveness and determine if Sundarbans tigers should be defined and managed as separate conservation unit. We utilized nine microsatellites and 3 kb f...
متن کاملTetralogy of Fallot and atrial septal defect in a white Bengal Tiger cub (Panthera tigris tigris)
A 3-week-old female white Bengal Tiger cub (Panthera tigris tigris) presented with acute onset tachypnoea, cyanosis and hypothermia. The cub was severely hypoxaemic with a mixed acid-base disturbance. Echocardiography revealed severe pulmonic stenosis, right ventricular hypertrophy, high membranous ventricular septal defect and an overriding aorta. Additionally, an atrial septal defect was foun...
متن کاملChordoma of the thoracic vertebrae in a Bengal tiger (Panthera tigris tigris)
A 19-year-old female Bengal tiger (Panthera tigris tigris) was presented with hind limb weakness, ataxia and respiratory distress. Computed tomography revealed a mass between the left side of the T7 vertebra and the base of the left 7th rib. The tiger then died, and necropsy was performed. Grossly, the vertebral mass was 6 × 5.7 × 3 cm, and invaded the adjacent vertebral bone and compressed the...
