چکیده
As part of a project for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, Sandia National Laboratones’ Intelligent Systems & Robotics Center is developing and testing the feasibility of using a cooperative team of robotic sentry vehicles to guard a perimeter, perform a surround task, and travel extended distances. This paper describes our most recent activities. In particular, this paper highlights the development of a Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS) Ieapfiog capability that allows two or more vehicles to alternate sending DGPS corrections. Using this leapfrog technique, this paper shows that a group of autonomous vehicles can travel 22.68 kilometers with a root mean square positioning error of only 5 meters.

Autonomous navigation of micro-UAVs is typically based on the integration of low cost Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receivers and Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS)-based inertial and magnetic sensors to stabilize and control the flight. The resulting navigation performance in terms of position and attitude accuracy may not suffice for other mission needs, such as the ones rele...

Autonomous vehicles have the capacity of circulating much in the way humans drive them, but without the inherent limitations of people driving. A second step in the development of these kind of vehicles is to add the capacity to perform cooperative driving with other cars to them, autonomously as well manually driven. The aim of this paper is to describe a new kind maneuvers for autonomous vehi...

Early detection of overtaking vehicles is an important task for vision-based driver assistance systems. Techniques utilizing image motion are likely to suffer from spurious image structures caused by shadows and illumination changes, let alone the aperture problem. To achieve reliable detection of overtaking vehicles, we have developed a robust detection method which integrates dynamic scene mo...
