Where Are the High Velocity Clouds?

چکیده

Recent observations of high velocity clouds (HVCs) have revealed compression fronts and tail shaped features of HI suggesting that they are interacting with an external medium. We perform 3-D hydrodynamical simulations of HVCs moving through a diffuse hot gaseous component, investigating the behaviour of both extra-galactic dark matter dominated HVCs and nearby pure gas clouds that may be accreting onto the Galactic disk via a Galactic fountain. Both scenarios can give rise to similar features as observed if the external medium has a density > 10 cm. Observations suggest that this may be too high for a hot ionised halo or intergalactic gas and supports the Galactic fountain origin, a model that can also account for the high fraction of HVCs with tails and asymmetrical morphologies. Laminar Flame Speed Prediction in Lean Mixture of Aluminum Dust Clouds by Considering the Effect of Random Distribution of Particles in Two-dimension

In the present study, the effect of random distribution of reactants and products on laminar, 2D and steady-state flame propagation in aluminium particles has been investigated. The equations are solved only for lean mixture. The flame structure is assumed to consist of a preheat zone, a reaction zone and a post flame zone. It is presumed that in the preheat zone particles are heated an...

We present slitless spectra of the Narrow Line Region (NLR) in NGC 4151 from the Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph (STIS) on HST, and investigate the kinematics and physical conditions of the emission line clouds in this region. Using medium resolution (∼ 0.5 ˚ A) slitless spectra at two roll angles and narrow band undispersed images, we have mapped the NLR velocity field from 1.2 kpc to wit...

v 1 1 5 Ju l 1 99 8 WHAM Observations of H α Emission from High Velocity Clouds in the M , A , and C Complexes

The first observations of the recently completed Wisconsin H-Alpha Mapper (WHAM) facility include a study of emission lines from high velocity clouds in the M, A, and C complexes, with most of the observations on the M I cloud. We present results including clear detections of Hα emission from all three complexes with intensities ranging from 0.06 to 0.20 R. In every observed direction where the...

Neutral Hydrogen Clouds near Early-Type Dwarf Galaxies of the Local Group

Parkes neutral hydrogen 21 cm line (Hi) observations of the surroundings of 9 early-type Local Group dwarfs are presented. We detected numerous Hi clouds in the general direction of those dwarfs and these clouds are often offset from the optical center of the galaxies. Although all the observed dwarfs, except Antlia, occupy phase-space regions where the High-Velocity Cloud (HVC) density is well...
