چکیده

Citrinin is one of the mycotoxins produced by Penicillium citrinum. We examined the decomposition products after heating citrinin in water at 140 degrees C and isolated a major product, citrinin H2 (3-(3,5-dihydroxy-2-methylphenyl)-2-formyloxy-butane). Citrinin H2 did not show significant cytotoxicity to HeLa cells up to a concentration of 200 microg/ml (% cytotoxicity: 39%) in 63 h of incubation, but citrinin showed severe toxicity at a concentration of 25 microg/ml (% cytotoxicity: 73%). HPLC analysis of citrinin after heating under various conditions indicates that citrinin H2 is mainly yielded from citrinin.

Identification and in vivo functional analysis by gene disruption of ctnA, an activator gene involved in citrinin biosynthesis in Monascus purpureus.

Citrinin, a secondary fungal metabolite of polyketide origin, is moderately nephrotoxic to vertebrates, including humans. From the red-pigment producer Monascus purpureus, a 21-kbp region flanking pksCT, which encodes citrinin polyketide synthase, was cloned. Four open reading frames (ORFs) (orf1, orf2, orf3, and orf4) in the 5'-flanking region and one ORF (orf5) in the 3'-flanking region were ...

Citrinin and color analysis of angkak collected from several regions in Indonesia

Angkak, a fermentation product of rice by Monascus sp., is used for natural food coloring, spices, and medicine by Indonesian people who believe in its pharmacological properties. However, Monascus sp. also produces a secondary metabolite, hepato-nephrotoxic mycotoxin citrinin. The biosynthesis of pigments and citrinin is generated from a tetraketide point in the polyketides pathway. This study...

Production of citrinin by Penicillium viridicatum on country-cured ham.

Seven strains of Penicillium viridicatum isolated from country-cured ham produced citrinin in potato dextrose broth and on country-cured ham. None of the strains produced detectable amounts of citrinin at 10 C. The optimal temperature range for citrinin production was 25 to 30 C.

Effects and Mechanism of Blue Light on Monascus in Liquid Fermentation.

The effect of light on Monascus and the underlying mechanism have received a great deal of interest for the industrial application of Monascus pigments. In this study, we have examined the effects of blue light on the culture morphology, mycelium growth, pigments, and citrinin yield of Monascus in liquid-state and oscillation fermentation, and explored the mechanism at a physiological level. It...
