چکیده

We study the potential of a static quark anti-quark pair in the range 0.05 fm ≤ r ≤ 0.8fm, employing a sequence of lattices up to 64. Lattice artifacts in potential and force are investigated theoretically as well as numerically and continuum quantities are obtained by extrapolation of the results at finite lattice spacing. Consistency of the numerical results with the form of scaling violations predicted by an analysis à la Symanzik is found. The scale r0/a is determined for the Wilson action up to β = 6.92. With the use of the world-line formalism, the heavy-quark condensate in the SU(N)-QCD is evaluated for the cases when the next-to-1/r term in the quark-antiquark potential at short distances is either quadratic, or linear. In the former case, which takes place in the stochastic vacuum model, the standard QCD-sum-rules result is reproduced. In the other case, the condensate turns out to be UV-fi...

The separation of a heavy quark and antiquark pair leads to the formation of a tube of flux, or string, which should break in the presence of light quark-antiquark pairs. This expected zero temperature phenomenon has proven elusive in simulations of lattice QCD. We present simulation results that show that the string does break in the confining phase at nonzero temperature. In the absence of li...

Lattice calculation of medium effects at short and long distances

The perturbative description of the Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP) breaks down even at very high temperatures [1]. The reason for this is the generation of different length (time) scales at finite temperature. At high temperatures (T ≫ ΛQCD) the gauge coupling constant is small g ≪ 1 and well separated length scales exist: 1/T ≪ 1/(gT ) ≪ 1/(gT ). For such high temperatures the region of applicabilit...
