Protein requirements of growing lambs.

چکیده
I . The protein requirements of lambs were established by measuring nitrogen balance in seventy-four animals given liquid diets which passed direct to the abomasum. Four groups of lambs weighing approximately 8 kg (group I), 13 kg (group z), 21 kg (group 3) and 30 kg (group 4) received diets in which 0-10, 0.15, ozo,o'z5, 0 . 3 0 , 0 3 5 or w4oof thedigestibleenergy was provided as protein (DPE:DE ratio) and a gross energy intake of from 1.30 to 1.42 MJ/kg0'73 per d. z. When the protein requirements were taken to correspond to the protein intake at the point of intersection of the line describing the increase in N balance with increase in protein intake and the line representing the maximum N balance, values of 0.25 ,023 , 017 and 012 DPE: DE ratio were obtained for groups 1-4 respectively. The requirements expressed in these terms can be applied only to lambs fed on liquid diets which contain milk proteins and escape fermentation in the rumen. To enable the results to be applied to lambs given other diets, the requirements were expressed as g reference-protein (defined as a theoretical protein with the ideal pattern of amino acids) per MJ net energy and were I 1.6, 104, 8.0 and 6.2 for groups 1-4 respectively. The relationship between protein requirement ( Y, g reference protein/MJ net energy) and live weight (X, kg) was: Y = 13.4-0.24zX. 3. The influence of energy intake on protein requirements in lambs is discussed and it is concluded that the results obtained are applicable to lambs given a metabolizable energy intake of more than about 1.75 times their maintenance requirement. 4. Application of the estimated requirements to ruminant lambs and methods of formulating diets to supply the required quantity of reference protein/M J net energy are discussed.

Effect of Processing of Sorghum Stover Based Diets on Performance, Values of Haematological and Biochemical Parameters and Immune Response in Growing Nellore Lamb
A complete diet (Total Mixed ration) with sorghum stover (40%) as sole roughage source was prepared and offered to animals under two forms: as mash or as expanded-extruded pellets (EEP). These two complete diets were compared with a conventional diet (ad libitum chopped sorghum stover fed separately with concentrate mixture to meet 80% of protein requirements). These three diets were randomly a...
متن کاملEffect of Dietary Protein Sources on Lamb’s Performance: A Review
Protein and energy are the two major components of feed that influence performance of the growing and fattening lambs. Provision of the quality of protein in the lamb’s diet does not only improve the animal performance but also ensures profitable animal production. Different vegetable protein sources are used to formulate the rations for growing and fattening lambs. These protein sources differ...
متن کاملEffect of Dietary Crude Protein Level on UT-B Expression and Nitrogen Efficiency in Growing Baluchi Male Lambs Fed Low or High Concentrate Diets
An experiment was carried out to evaluate how interactions between forage to concentrate ratio and dietary crude protein level may alter nitrogen efficiency and UT-B expression in growing Baluchi male lambs. Four Baluchi male lambs [30 ± 2 kg BW] were used in a 4 × 4 latin square design with 28-d periods and a 2 × 2 factorial arrangement of dietary treatments. The treatments fed forage: concent...
متن کاملEffect of feeding detoxified karanj seed cake on immunity and pathology in growing lambs
This scientific report describes the effect of feeding detoxified karanj seed cake as protein replacement of soya bean meal on immunity and pathology in growing lambs. Twenty-four male lambs, 4-6 months of age were divided into four groups of six each and fed with different levels of detoxified karanj seed cake (dKC 0%, dKC 25%, dKC 50%, dKC 75%) for 140 days. Effect on humoral and cell mediate...
متن کاملEffects of a high-protein, low-energy diet in finishing lambs: 1. Feed intake, estimated nutrient uptake, and levels of plasma metabolites and metabolic hormones
Patterns of tissue mobilisation in ruminants are ill-understood. This hinders nutritional management to mitigate the effects of energy deprivation on protein mass, and nutritional regimens designed to change body composition. An experiment was conducted to comprehensively evaluate the effects of a low-energy high-protein diet in growing lambs. Three diets (CON=concentrate diet ad libitum, STR=s...
