چکیده

Abs t rac t . In this paper, a new approach for retrieval from semistructured photographic collections is described. We have developed a retrieval model based on the Dempster-Shafer theory of evidence combination. Basic concepts of the Dempster-Shafer theory are explained and the suitability of this theory for information retrieval is explored. A retrieval model for a semi-structured photographic collection is presented. Extensibitity of this retrieval model for multimedia information retrieval is discussed. Integration of database and information retrieval concepts is a major requirement for semi-structured multimedia information retrieval and is accomplished in this model. A novel indexing scheme for photographic materials is described. We use spatial features, which are objects and their location, as photographic features. We. have developed a multi-modal query interface for querying a photographic collection. A prototype system, Epic, has been implemented and is described in this paper.

Purpose – Being an important data exchange and information storage standard, XML has generated a great deal of interest and particular attention has been paid to the issue of XML indexing. Clear use cases for structured search in XML have been established. Toward Structured Retrieval in Semi-structured Information Spaces

A semi-structured information space consists of multiple collections of textual documents containing fielded or tagged sections. The space can be highly heterogeneous, because each collection has its own schema, and there are no enforced keys or formats for data items across collections. Thus, structured methods like SQL cannot be easily employed, and users often must make do with only full-tex...

Survey on Mining in Semi-Structured Data

Emerging technologies of semi-structured data have attracted wide attention of networks, e-commerce, information retrieval and databases. In these applications, the data are modeled not as static collections but as transient data streams, where the data source is an unbounded stream of individual data items. It is becoming increasingly popular to send heterogeneous and ill-structured data throu...

Multi-Modal Interactive Approach to ImageCLEF 2007 Photographic and Medical Retrieval Tasks by CINDI

This paper presents the contribution of CINDI group to the ImageCLEF 2007 ad-hoc retrieval tasks. We experiment with multi-modal (e.g., image and text) interaction and fusion approaches based on relevance feedback information for image retrieval tasks of photographic and medical image collections. For a text-based image search, keywords from the annotated files are extracted and indexed by empl...

CINDI at ImageCLEF 2006: Image Retrieval & Annotation Tasks for the General Photographic and Medical Image Collections

This paper presents our techniques used and their analysis for the runs made and the results submitted by the CINDI group for the task of the image retrieval and automatic annotation of ImageCLEF 2006. For the ah-hoc image retrieval from both the photographic and medical image collections, we have experimented with cross-modal (image and text) interaction and integration approaches based on the...
