چکیده

The idea of cyclic scheduling is commonly utilized to address short-term scheduling problems for multiproduct batch plants under the assumption of relatively stable operations and product demands. It requires the determination of optimal cyclic schedule, thus greatly reducing the size of the overall scheduling problems with large time horizon. In this paper a new cyclic scheduling approach is proposed based on the state-task network (STN) representation of the plant [Comput. Chem. Eng. 17 (1993) 211] and a continuous-time formulation [Ind. Eng. Chem. Res. 37 (1998a) 4341]. Assuming that product demands and prices are not fluctuating along the time horizon under consideration, the proposed formulation determines the optimal cycle length as well as the timing and sequencing of tasks within a cycle. This formulation corresponds to a non-convex mixed integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) problem, for which local and global optimization algorithms are used and the results are illustrated for various case studies. © 2004 Elsevier Ltd. Eeective Continuous-time Formulation for Short-term Scheduling: I. Multipurpose Batch Processes

{During the last decade, the problem of production scheduling has been realized to be one of the most important problems in industrial plant operations especially when multipurpose/multiproduct batch processes are involved. This paper presents a novel mathematical formulation for the short-term scheduling of batch plants. The proposed formulation is based on a continuous time representation and...

Timed Petri-Net Representation for Short Term Scheduling of Multiproduct Batch Plants

Scheduling is one of the interesting research fields in batch chemical industries, which substantially differs from that in discrete manufacturing systems. One of the main differences between these two fields is the intermediate storage of materials, which appears in chemical processes. This situation prevents the direct applicability of some of the scheduling techniques (such as Petri nets) us...

A New Continuous-Time Formulation for the Scheduling of Single Stage Batch Plants with Sequence Dependent Changeovers

This paper presents a new multiple-time grid, continuous-time mixed integer linear program (MILP) model for the short-term scheduling of single stage, multiproduct plants featuring equipment units with sequence dependent changeovers. It considers combined processing and changeover tasks as opposed to handling them separately and is very versatile in terms of type of objective function that can ...

A New General Continuous-Time State Task Network Formulation for Short-Term Scheduling of Multipurpose Batch Plants

A new continuous time MILP model for the short-term scheduling of multipurpose batch plants is presented. The proposed model relies on the State Task Network (STN) and addresses the general problem of batch scheduling, accounting for resource (utility) constraints, variable batch sizes and processing times, various storage policies (UIS/FIS/NIS/ZW), batch mixing/splitting, and sequencedependent...

State-of-the Art in Short-Term, Medium-Term, and Reactive Scheduling for Large-Scale Batch and Continuous Processes

Scheduling is a decision making process to determine when, where, how to produce a set of products given requirements in a specific time horizon, a set of limited resources, and processing recipes. The research area of batch and continuous process scheduling has received great attention from both the academia and the industry in the past two decades. This is motivated by the increasing pressure...
