Chlorhexidine gluconate as a urine preservative in analysis for oxalic acid.

چکیده
Chborhexidine, a potent antiseptic (1), has been used as a preservative for urine (2, 3) in which oxabic acid and calcium were to be measured. We recently described a biquid-chromatographic method for determining oxalic acid in urine (4) and wish to describe our results when using chlorhexidine gluconate (CG) to replace HCI in the preservation of urine in which oxalic acid was measured. Our method for determining oxalic acid is based on the formation of 2,3dihydroxyquinoxabine by reaction of oxalic acid in urine with o-phenybenediamine and the isolation and quantitation of this derivative by reversedphase liquid chromatography. In this method, the formation of the quinoxaline from compounds other than oxalic acid is corrected for by use of samples incubated with oxalate decarboxylase (EC 4.1.1.2) before the reaction with o-phenylenediarnine (4). Also, in those studies, urine was acidified with HCI and stored frozen. We saw no statistically significant change in the oxalic acid content of urine during frozen storage for as bong as 35 days (4). Subsequently, other studies indicated that oxalic acid is unchanged in acidified urines stored at room temperature. Because 24-h urine specimens are Table 1. Chlorhexidine loss from simulated contact lens solutions stored in glass and plastic packages.
A storage test on chlorhexidine gluconate (0.004%) in aqueous or simulated contact lens solutions, conducted for 6 months in various containers, suggested [l] that loss of activity by a surface adsorption process was occurring. It has been reported [2] that contact lens solutions containing chlorhexidine gluconate (0.~5%) stored at room temperature in the dark for 6 months in polypropylene, pol...

متن کاملEfficacy of chlorhexidine gluconate ointment (Oronine H®) for experimentally-induced comedones
BACKGROUND Oronine H(®) ointment, which contains chlorhexidine gluconate as its active component, is a well known disinfectant, and has been widely used for treatment of acne in Japan. In this study, we investigated the inhibitory effect of this ointment on the formation of comedones induced by application of 50% oleic acid on the orifices of the external auditory canals of rabbits. METHODS T...

Isotonic, neutral buffered solutions of benzalkonium chloride or chlorhexidine digluconate were applied topically to one eye of rabbits or human subjects. Contralateral control eyes received phosphate buffered saline as placebo. One-half hour later, the tear film of both eyes was loaded with nonpreserved sodium fluorescein. Anterior chamber fluorescence levels were measured at 1 hr intervals to...
