Construction of a Three-sided Immersive Telecollaboration System

چکیده
The so-called “blue-c” is a novel three sided immersive projection system, which has been especially designed to support telecollaborative teamwork [4]. Therefore, special projection screens are used, which can be switched to a transparent state electrically. The user is captured with sixteen cameras in total, standing outside of the projection room. These images are then processed to create a 3D representation of the user, which can be projected in a second installation. The whole installation has been engineered and implemented at the ETH Zurich [10]. A special active stereo projection system, based on LCD projectors with additional shutters proved to work very well at a very competing price. The paper describes the background of the decisions made and the problems that had to be overcome.

Design Optimization and Construction of Double-Sided Linear Induction Motor
Linear induction motors have single and double-sided structures which are used in special applications, according to their advantages and disadvantages. Due to advantages such as lack of normal forces in double-sided type, these motors are more controllable and popular than the single-sided type, especially for transportation applications. In literature, single-sided linear induction motors ha...
متن کاملblue-c: Using 3D Video for Immersive Telepresence Applications
In this paper we describe real-time 3D video technology for immersive telepresence applications. The technology allows users to meet and collaborate in networked virtual environments in full 3D. The user can freely navigate and see himself or others from arbitrary viewing points. The photorealistic appearance of a 3D user representation allows for natural collaboration in immersive spaces and e...
متن کاملCollaborative development in the virtual world: discourse, digital artefacts and the construction of intersubjective meaning
The misconception of virtual worlds as „games‟ has prevented these immersive environments from being treated as legitimate areas of inquiry by the Information Systems community. In this paper we argue that these environments challenge our conceptualisation of technology mediation due to the immersive and co-created nature of the digital environment, and particularly, challenges our understandin...
متن کاملThe Practices and Challenges of Telecollaboration in Higher Education in Europe
Francesca Helm, University of Padova Telecollaboration is an area of CALL research and practice which has developed considerably in the last twenty years. Many research studies have been carried out and important findings have been made, but there has not yet been a large scale survey to try and ‘map’ the state of the art in telecollaboration practice. Most studies focus on single telecollabora...
متن کاملEarthen architecture, an alternative to construction industry to manage the drought crisis in Iran: Comparison between water usage in a building with three type of loading system: steel, concrete, and earth
Abstract: Iran faces water shortage crisis whilst construction industry consumes huge amount of water. There are not precise data about construction industry water consumption. Accordingly, lack of comparison as well as prioritization between prevalent structural systems and alternatives which probably use less water create problems in planning for less consumption. There are two questions whi...
