Transitions between states of knowledge can be described in K, and the language is well suited for planning under incomplete knowledge. Nonetheless, K also supports the representation of transitions between states of the world (i.e., states of complete knowledge) as a special case, proving to be very flexible. A planning system supporting K is implemented on top of the disjunctive logic programming system DLV. This novel system allows for solving hard planning problems, including secure planning under incomplete initial states, which cannot be solved at all by other logic-based planning systems such as traditional satisfiability planners.

Extending the Knowledge-Based Approach to Planning with Incomplete Information and Sensing
In (Petrick and Bacchus 2002), a “knowledge-level” approach to planning under incomplete knowledge and sensing was presented. In comparison with alternate approaches based on representing sets of possible worlds, this higher-level representation is richer, but the inferences it supports are weaker. Nevertheless, because of its richer representation, it is able to solve problems that cannot be s...
متن کاملEvaluating Temporal Plans in Incomplete Domains
Recent work on planning in incomplete domains focuses on constructing plans that succeed despite incomplete knowledge of action preconditions and effects. As planning models become more expressive, such as in temporal planning, the types of incompleteness may not only change, but plans become more challenging to evaluate. The primary difficulty to temporal plan evaluation is accounting for temp...
متن کاملReasoning about actions with imprecise and incomplete state descriptions
This article is a first step in the direction of extending possibilistic planning to account for incomplete and imprecise knowledge of the world state. Fundamental definitions are given and the possibilistic planning problem is recast in this new setting. Finally, it is shown that, under certain conditions, possibilistic planning with imprecise and incomplete state descriptions is no harder tha...
متن کاملGoal-Directed Knowledge Acquisition
Agents with incomplete knowledge of their actions can either plan around the incompleteness, ask questions of a domain expert, or learn through trial and error. We present and evaluate several approaches to formulating plans under incomplete information, using the plans to identify relevant (goaldirected) questions, and interleaving acting, planning, and question asking. We show that goal-direc...
متن کاملPlanning in Incomplete Domains
Engineering complete planning domain descriptions is often very costly because of human-error or lack of domain knowledge. While many have studied knowledge acquisition, relatively few have studied the synthesis of plans when the domain model is incomplete (i.e., actions have incomplete preconditions or effects). Prior work has evaluated the correctness of plans synthesized by disregarding such...
