چکیده

To test the efficacy of Withaniasomnifera(W.somnifera)on serum lipid profile and protein fractions of heat stressed Japanese quails, a study was conducted using root ethanolic extract and crude powder in two different levels for each. Three hundred 6 weeks old Japanese quail hens was assigned to one of the following five treatments: control T0 (without any addition), T1= daily oral administration with 50mg/kg b.wt. ethanolic extract, T2=daily oral administration with 100mg/kgb.wt. ethanolic extract, T3= daily fed with 1g/kg diet crude powder, T4= daily fed with 2g/kg diet crude powder. At 10 weeks of age high levels of ethanolic extract or crude powder (T1 and T4) decreased significantly serum LDL in comparison with control while non-HDL was decreased significantly in ethanolic extract group as compared to crude powder groups. Treated quails with W.somnifera didn’t affect serum HDL level. At 15 weeks of age, ethanolic extract reduced significantly: triglycerides, VLDL, and serum HDL as compared to control group while non-HDL didn’t affected significantly between treated and control groups. Results of blood serum protein fraction determined by discgel electrophoresis showed significant increasing in albumin and alpha 1globulin percentage in groups supplemented with W.somnifera especially as crude powder. Beta and gamma globulin bands didn’t appear in groups supplemented with root crude powder. It can be concluded from the results of recent study that supplementing heat stressed Japanese quail hens with W.somnifera roots significantly decreased serum LDL at the early stage of egg production whereas at the consequent stage, triglycerides and VLDL was significantly decreased and the percentage of serum albumin, alpha 1 and alpha 2-globulin was significantly increased.

Incorporation of Early Career Researchers (ECRs) within multidisciplinary research at academic institutions

Multidisciplinary research is becoming an increasingly popular approach by many international, national and institutional organisations to address global grand challenges and provide innovative solutions. However, within an academic setting, Early Career Researchers are underutilized in this field. This underutilisation can come from many factors, arising from current performance metrics, fixed...

Magic Mountains and Multi-disciplines in International Medical Mobilities; Comment on “Patient Mobility in the Global Marketplace: A Multidisciplinary Perspective”

Medical mobilities offer both opportunities and challenges. This tension follows the same ratio as many other historic fora, but offers at the same time a sustainable equilibrium. Multi-disciplines are, therefore, the key to the medical lifeworld for the global health and well-being of transnational health users around the globe.

Neil Lunt and Russel Mannion provide an overview of the current state of the medical tourism literature and propose areas for future research in health policy and management. The authors also identify the main unanswered questions in this field ranging from the real size of the medical tourism market to the particular health profiles of transnational patients. In addition, they highlight unexpl...

Research and development in haematology. A report on international congresses and visit to academic centres in Europe.

Haematology is one of the most rapidly expanding disciplines in medicine and nursing. As occurs in other highly specialised areas, optimum care is now largely of a multidisciplinary nature. In this context there are literally unlimited opportunities for the involvement of professional nurses and, as I have attempted to illustrate in this report, integration in all aspects of research and develo...

Patient Mobility in the Global Marketplace: A Multidisciplinary Perspective

There is a growing global market in healthcare and patients. And while there is a small body of evidence emerging around this phenomenon commonly known as medical tourism there remain significant unanswered policy and research questions which need to be addressed. We outline some of the key issues set against the six key disciplinary preoccupations of the journal: epidemiology, health economics...
