A Preliminary Analysis of Loss Synchronisation between Concurrent TCP Flows

چکیده
This paper introduces a preliminary study of synchronisation between packet loss events across concurrent TCP flows. Loss synchronisation is explored over four routing paths – one inside Australia and three international paths (Australia to Asia, Europe and North America respectively). We confirm that loss synchronisation does exist but the level varies from path to path. We outline further work that is required to improve our understanding of loss synchronisation.

On Individual and Aggregate TCP Performance
Abstract As the most widely used reliable transport in today’s Internet, TCP has been extensively studied in the past decade. However, previous research usually only considers a small or medium number of concurrent TCP connections. The TCP behavior under many competing TCP flows has not been sufficiently explored. In this paper we use extensive simulations to investigate the individual and aggr...

متن کاملDelay-Based False Congestion Detection on Groups of TCP Flows
By opening a number of concurrent parallel TCP flows, a node can achieve high utilization of available link bandwidth in high-bandwidth long-delay network without modification of TCP itself. However, parallel TCP flows are inherently unfair with respect to normal TCP flows. There have been several proposals to improve performance of parallel TCP flows. CM, COCOON, Fractional/Combined TCP, and T...
متن کاملRight buffer sizing matters: stability and queuing dynamics in TCP
Motivated by recent concerns that queuing delays in the Internet are on the rise, we conduct a performance evaluation of Compound TCP (C-TCP) in two topologies: a single bottleneck and a multi-bottleneck topology. The first topology consists of a single core router, and the second consists of two distinct sets of TCP flows, regulated by two edge routers, feeding into a common core router. For b...
متن کاملEfficient Video Streaming using TCP
While most of the traffic on the Internet today consists of TCP flows, conventional wisdom holds that TCP is unsuitable for video streaming applications due to its insistence on reliability and lack of throughput guarantees. However, most streaming protocols need to implement many features of TCP including congestion control and recovery from packet loss. Additionally, using TCP for streaming i...
