Deep Vein Thrombosis and Pulmonary Embolism in a Woman with Uterine Myoma
نویسندگان
چکیده
Background:. Deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism are rare complications of uterine myoma. There have been few reports on these associations. Case: A 41 year old para 1+0 presented with 20 weeks size fibroid uterus, which had compressed the pelvic veins and caused unilateral deep vein thrombosis of right leg with subsequent pulmonary embolism. After anticoagulation therapy, a total abdominal hysterectomy was performed, with an uneventful recovery. Conclusion: Although deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism associated with uterine myoma is a rare event, it can be managed successfully with anticoagulants and hysterectomy. A uterine myoma with deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism is an indication for hysterectomy. Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Cardiology, Radiology; Apollo Hospitals, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Background and Objective:Deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism are fatal problems following brain trauma that, if left untreated, can dramatically increase mortality. Therefore, the present study aimed to evaluate deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism and related factors in patients with traumatic brain injury. Materials and Methods:This cross-sectional study was performed on 38 patie...
متن کاملUterine myoma as a cause of iliac vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism: common disease, rare complication
Uterine myoma is a common condition among women, which may very rarely be associated with deep venous thrombosis (VT). Few reports of myoma with associated VT have been reported in the English language and, of those, only three were associated with embolic events. This manuscript reports the case of a 29-year-old patient who presented with pulmonary embolism due to iliac VT secondary to extrins...
متن کاملMassive pulmonary embolism in a woman with leiomyomatous uterus causing pelvic deep venous thrombosis.
Deep venous thrombosis (DVT) is a serious illness sometimes causing death due to acute pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE). Blood stasis of the pelvic vein is a major etiologic factor for DVT. Occasionally a large myomatous uterus can cause compression of the pelvic venous system leading to DVT. We describe a very rare case of massive pulmonary embolism in a 39-year-old woman with multiple uterine ...
متن کاملEffects of Rivaroxaban on Coagulation Assays in Patients with Small Pulmonary Embolism and Deep Vein Thrombosis in Relation to Body Mass Index
Introduction: Rivaroxaban is a new anticoagulant medication for pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE) and deep vein thrombosis (DVT). There are limited data on the effect of body mass index (BMI) on the pharmacokinetics of rivaroxaban. This study aimed to assess the effect of rivaroxaban on coagulation assays in relation to BMI in PTE and DVT patients. Materials and Met...

Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is an important life threatening condition that is difficult to diagnose, particularly in the early stages. Looking for DVT in lower limb can be considered ancillary in suspected cases of pulmonary embolism (PE) indirectly highlighting a cause and effect relationship of a single disease (i.e cause being DVT and effect is the assault on the lung vasculature). Prompt an...
