Total Generalized Variation

چکیده
The novel concept of total generalized variation of a function u is introduced and some of its essential properties are proved. Differently from the bounded variation semi-norm, the new concept involves higher order derivatives of u. Numerical examples illustrate the high quality of this functional as a regularization term for mathematical imaging problems. In particular this functional selectively regularizes on different regularity levels and, as a side effect, does not lead to a staircasing effect.

Second order total generalized variation (TGV) for MRI.
Total variation was recently introduced in many different magnetic resonance imaging applications. The assumption of total variation is that images consist of areas, which are piecewise constant. However, in many practical magnetic resonance imaging situations, this assumption is not valid due to the inhomogeneities of the exciting B1 field and the receive coils. This work introduces the new co...
متن کاملInverse Problems with Second-order Total Generalized Variation Constraints
Total Generalized Variation (TGV) has recently been introduced as penalty functional for modelling images with edges as well as smooth variations [2]. It can be interpreted as a “sparse” penalization of optimal balancing from the first up to the kth distributional derivative and leads to desirable results when applied to image denoising, i.e., L-fitting with TGV penalty. The present paper studi...
متن کاملRegularization of linear inverse problems with total generalized variation
The regularization properties of the total generalized variation (TGV) functional for the solution of linear inverse problems by means of Tikhonov regularization are studied. Considering the associated minimization problem for general symmetric tensor fields, the wellposedness is established in the space of symmetric tensor fields of bounded deformation, a generalization of the space of functio...

متن کاملSpatially dependent regularization parameter selection in total generalized variation models for image restoration
The automated spatially dependent regularization parameter selection framework of [9] for multi-scale image restoration is applied to total generalized variation (TGV) of order two. Well-posedness of the underlying continuous models is discussed and an algorithm for the numerical solution is developed. Experiments confirm that due to the spatially adapted regularization parameter the method all...
متن کاملConstrained Total Generalized p-Variation Minimization for Few-View X-Ray Computed Tomography Image Reconstruction.
Total generalized variation (TGV)-based computed tomography (CT) image reconstruction, which utilizes high-order image derivatives, is superior to total variation-based methods in terms of the preservation of edge information and the suppression of unfavorable staircase effects. However, conventional TGV regularization employs l1-based form, which is not the most direct method for maximizing sp...
