چکیده

A completely geometric approach for precise orbit determination (POD) of low earth orbiter (LEO) spacecraft has been devised by the authors which does not use dynamic models, but only data from the GPS receiver onboard the LEO and the International GPS Service (IGS) precise GPS ephemeris product. The strategy relies on combining the time-continuous measurement strength of the pseudorange and carrier-phase observables. The result is a straightforward, efficient procedure, which has the striking characteristics of providing a single receiver solution and is receiver platform-independent. This paper describes the mathematical model development of a kinematic, sequential least-squares filter/smoother implementing this form of GPS positioning. The strategy is then applied to orbit determination using data from the TOPEX/Poseidon, and CHAMP missions. The overall accuracy is assessed, with good quality data producing few-decimetre orbits in terms of total displacement error.

Precise Orbit Determination of Low Earth Orbiters with GPS Point Positioning

Precise orbit determination (POD) of low earth orbiters (LEOs) with GPS is becoming a standard practice in the space science community. The need for such information has been growing rapidly due to such scientific applications as radio occultation and ever increasing demands from engineering applications such as spacebased earth sensor positioning. The conventional GPSbased POD strategies rely ...

An assessment of relativistic effects for low Earth orbiters: the GRACE satellites

The GRACE mission consists of two identical satellites orbiting the Earth at an altitude of ∼500 km. Dual-frequency carrier-phase Global Positioning System (GPS) receivers are flying on both satellites. They are used for precise orbit determination and to time-tag the K-band ranging system used to measure changes in the distances between the two satellites. The satellites are also flying ultra-...

Kinematic and reduced-dynamic precise orbit determination of low earth orbiters

Various methods for kinematic and reduced-dynamic precise orbit determination (POD) of Low Earth Orbiters (LEO) were developed based on zeroand double-differencing of GPS carrier-phase measurements with and without ambiguity resolution. In this paper we present the following approaches in LEO precise orbit determination: – zero-difference kinematic POD, – zero-difference dynamic POD, – double-d...

GPS Workstation—A Static Point Averaging and Tracks Mapping Application

This paper describes GPS Workstation, a general purpose navigation software which requires a low-cost GPS connected to the computer. It provides an integrated display of positioning data along with satellite positions, their signal strengths and data quality parameters. The software can be used for static point averaging of GPS data to get more precise positioning and real-time mapping of roads...

Investigation of MODIS mission capability in tropospheric delay estimation for precise point positioning

Tropospheric delay is always considered as one of the factors limiting the accuracy of GPS. In this paper, the three-dimensional ray tracing technique is proposed to calculate the tropospheric delay. The ability of the MODIS mission to calculate the tropospheric delay is also examined. For this purpose, an area in central Europe was selected and a MODIS acquisition on 2008/08/01 was studied. In...
