چکیده

This work studies the frequency behavior of t h e Lomb method to estimate the power spectral density (PSD) of heart rate (HR) unevenly sampled (UNS) signals. When the UNS can be modeled as uniform plus a random deviation (approximation well satisfied in HR signals), this spectra results in a periodic repa ti t ion of the original continuous t ime spectrum at the mean Nyquist frequency, with a low pass effect affecting the upper bands that depends on the sampling dispersion. In this case the estimation at the base band is unbiased with practically no dispersion. The performance has been tested with real HR signals corroborating the theoretical results. We have found that the Lomb method avoids the classical methods problem of low pass effect due to resampling. We conclude that the Lomb method is more suitable than classical methods for PSD estimation of UNS signals.

Improved Power Spectrum Estimation for RR-Interval Time Series

The RR interval series is non-stationary and unevenly spaced in time. For estimating its power spectral density (PSD) using traditional techniques like FFT, require resampling at uniform intervals. The researchers have used different interpolation techniques as resampling methods. All these resampling methods introduce the low pass filtering effect in the power spectrum. The lomb transform is a...

1 1 N ov 1 99 9 The RR interval spectrum , the ECG signal and aliasing

We discuss the relationship between the RR interval spectral analysis and the spectral analysis of the corresponding ECG signal from which the RR intervals were evaluated. The ECG signal spectrum is bounded below the frequency f B by using an electronic filter and sampled at rate larger than 2f B , thus excluding aliasing from spectral analysis. A similar procedure cannot be applied to the RR i...

Application of basis pursuit in spectrum estimation

In this paper, we apply Basis Pursuit, an atomic decomposition technique, for spectrum estimation. Compared with several modern time series methods, our approach can greatly reduce the problem of power leakage; it is able to superresolve; moreover, it works well with noisy and unevenly sampled signals. We present experiments on bizarrely spaced radial velocity data from one of the newly-discove...

Gap filling and noise reduction of unevenly sampled data by means of the Lomb - Scargle periodogram

The Lomb-Scargle periodogram is widely used for the estimation of the power spectral density of unevenly sampled data. A small extension of the algorithm of the Lomb-Scargle periodogram permits the estimation of the phases of the spectral components. The amplitude and phase information is sufficient for the construction of a complex Fourier spectrum. The inverse Fourier transform can be applied...

A Comparison of HRV Techniques: The Lomb Periodogram versus The Smoothed Pseudo Wigner-Ville Distribution

The purpose of a tachogram (from the Greek tachos, speed) is to quantify changes in heart rate over short time periods, ordinarily less than one day. Typically, the heart's rate of contraction is sampled once per beat (and hence unevenly in time), being taken as the inverse of the interval which occurs between consecutive QRS complexes (known as an RR interval). Since the Fourier transform algo...
