چکیده

The photon-absorption edge in a weakly interacting one-dimensional electron gas is studied, treating backscattering of conduction electrons from the core hole exactly. Close to threshold, there is a power-law singularity in the absorption, I(ǫ) ∝ ǫ−α, with α = 3/8 + δ+/π − δ2 +/2π where δ+ is the forward scattering phase shift of the core hole. In contrast to previous theories, α is finite (and universal) in the limit of weak core hole potential. In the case of weak backscattering U(2kF ), the exponent in the power-law dependence of absorption on energy crosses over to a value α = δ+/π − δ2 +/2π above an energy scale ǫ ∼ [U(2kF )]1/γ , where γ is a dimensionless measure of the electron-electron interactions. Fermi-edge singularity with backscattering in the Luttinger-liquid model.

We study the response of the interacting electron gas in one dimension on the local external potential. In the low frequency limit the power-law singularities are essentially modifyed by backscattering effects which, in the case of zero forward scattering, result in the universal critical exponent depending only on the Luttingerliquid interactions. The results obtained may be used to describe s...

Unified theory of strongly correlated electron systems

In framework of eigen-functional bosonization method, we introduce an imaginary phase field to uniquely represent electron correlation, and demonstrate that the Landau Fermi liquid theory and the Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid theory can be unified. It is very clear in this framework that the TomonagaLuttinger liquid behavior of one-dimensional interacting electron gases originates from their Fermi ...

Inelastic electron backscattering in a generic helical edge channel.

We evaluate the low-temperature conductance of a weakly interacting one-dimensional helical liquid without axial spin symmetry. The lack of that symmetry allows for inelastic backscattering of a single electron, accompanied by forward scattering of another. This joint effect of weak interactions and potential scattering off impurities results in a temperature-dependent deviation from the quanti...

Tunneling in one-dimensional non-Luttinger electron liquid.

The conductance of a weakly interacting electron gas in the presense of a single scatterer is found at arbitrary strength of the scattering potential. At weak interaction, a simple renormalization group approach can be used instead of the standard bosonization procedure. Our technique allows to take into account the backscattering of electrons that leads to a non-Luttinger-liquid behavior of th...

One-dimensional band-edge absorption in a doped quantum wire.

Low-temperature photoluminescence-excitation spectra are studied in an n-type modulation-doped T-shaped single quantum wire with a gate to tune electron densities. With a nondegenerate one-dimensional (1D) electron gas, the band-edge absorption exhibits a sharp peak structure induced by the 1D density of states. When the dense 1D electron gas is degenerate at a low temperature, we observe a Fer...
