چکیده

Background Diffusion Tensor MRI (DTI) of the heart in vivo has conventionally been performed in the short-axis of the left ventricle (LV) [1]. While this allows all three coronary territories to be seen, the short-axis acquisition orientation has some limitations. Full coverage of the LV in the short-axis requires roughly 12 to 15 slices, and accurate evaluation of the apex of the heart is often compromised. In addition, a nominal slice thickness of 8 mm is routinely used. An accelerated free-breathing DTI acquisition of the heart in its horizontal long-axis (4-chamber view) would require fewer slices (6), reduce acquisition time, and improve the characterization of the anterior and apical walls. A 4-chamber view, previously not performed, may be particularly useful when studying the remodeling of these regions.

Accelerated free-breathing diffusion tensor MRI of the entire human heart using spatiotemporal registration and retrospective image selection

Background Currently diffusion tensor MRI (DTI) of the heart can be performed in vivo either with a dual-gated STE [1] or gated motion-compensated PGSE [2]. Both are inefficient due to cardiac and respiratory motion leading to long scan times [3]. Simultaneous multi-slice (SMS) blippedCAIPI [4] has emerged as a unique EPI technique to acquire multiple slices simultaneously. SMS has been used fo...

Diffusion tensor imaging of the kidney at 3 Tesla MRI: normative values and repeatability of measurements in healthy volunteers.

PURPOSE To evaluate the feasibility of renal diffusion tensor imaging and determine the normative fractional anisotropy and apparent diffusion coefficient values at 3 Tesla magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) using parallel imaging and free breathing technique. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 52 young healthy volunteers with no history of renal disease were included in the study. MRI examinatio...

Differentiation of Edematous, Tumoral and Normal Areas of Brain Using Diffusion Tensor and Neurite Orientation Dispersion and Density Imaging

Background: Presurigical planning for glioma tumor resection and radiotherapy treatment require proper delineation of tumoral and peritumoral areas of brain. Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) is the most common mathematical model applied for diffusion weighted MRI data. Neurite orientation dispersion and density imaging (NODDI) is another mathematical model for DWI data modeling. Objective: We stud...

Determination of Fiber Direction in High Angular Resolution Diffusion Images using Spherical Harmonics Functions and Wiener Filter

Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) MRI is a noninvasive imaging method of the cerebral tissues whose fibers directions are not evaluated correctly in the regions of the crossing fibers. For the same reason the high angular resolution diffusion images (HARDI) are used for estimation of the fiber direction in each voxel. One of the main methods to specify the direction of fibers is usage of the spher...

The Benefits and implementations of Diffusion tensor imaging and Neural Fiber Tractography in Brain Surgery

Background and Aim: The methods for detecting brain activation with fMRI, MRI provides a way to measure the anatomical connections which enable lightning-fast communication among neurons that specialize in different kinds of brain functions. Diffusion tensor imaging is able to measure the direction of bundles of the axonal fibers which are all aligned. Besides mapping white matter fiber tracts,...
