چکیده

Digital Montessori-inspired Manipulatives (MiMs) so far have been used effectively for knowledge transfer in elementary educational settings. For work modeling and task-based interactive systems design we propose a modeling concept and usage scenario that should help to increase effectiveness in organization and technology development. The Tangible Task Modeling Demonstrator (TTMD) facilitates the representation and development of work and task models by means of MiMs. Using the TTMD users can directly grasp and manipulate work tasks. As a result, the cognitive load for modeling and (re-)arranging elements of work spaces can be reduced.

Towards a Unified Model of Simple Physical and Virtual Environments

This paper presents a general modeling approach intended to facilitate design of physical-virtual environments. Although the model is based on elements found in typical office environments, certain care has been taken to open for the modeling of more diverse settings with minimal ontological changes. The design approach finds inspiration in the technology-driven areas of Ubiquitous/Pervasive Co...

Creating and Modeling the User Experience in a Residential Gateway Environment

A Residential Gateway (RG) interconnects a home network and an access network. The RG delivers broadband multimedia services in the home, and acts as an autonomous personalized control unit to end-user equipment. The potential complexity of such a system is overwhelming. This paper describes novel work towards building an interaction approach that hides system complexity from the user by using ...

Beyond representations: towards an action-centric perspective on tangible interaction

In the light of theoretical as well as concrete technical development, we discuss a conceptual shift from an information-centric to an action-centric perspective on tangible interactive technology. We explicitly emphasise the qualities of shareable use, and the importance of designing tangibles that allow for meaningful manipulation and control of the digital material. This involves a broadened...

RUBE: An XML-Based Architecture for 3D Process Modeling and Model Fusion

Information fusion is a critical problem for science and engineering. There is a need to fuse information content specified as either data or model. We frame our work in terms of fusing dynamic and geometric models, to create an immersive environment where these models can be juxtaposed in 3D, within the same interface. The method by which this is accomplished fits well into other eXtensible Ma...

Poster: Towards Making InfoVis Views Tangible

In information visualization, interaction is commonly carried out by using traditional input devices, and visual feedback is usually given on desktop displays. By contrast, recent advances in interactive surface technology suggest combining interaction and display functionality in a single device for a more direct interaction. With our work, we contribute to the seamless integration of interact...
